This is the ideal position for someone looking to explore and develop research skills and support nationally-recognized efforts to improve family health in Minnesota. The 10,000 Families Study (10KFS) is led by multidisciplinary faculty at the University of Minnesota in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health in partnership with the Masonic Cancer Center. 10KFS is a cohort study that looks at lifestyle, genetic, and environmental influences on health and developing disease. 10KFS hosts family health visits where physical measurements and biospecimens are collected from participants of all ages. The primary site for health visits is the Advanced Research & Diagnostic Lab (ARDL) on the edge of the Minneapolis West Bank Campus. The study is launching family health visits at off-campus locations in the metro area and greater MN. Although health visits may be held during the week, visits are held primarily on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 to 4:00 pm. Days and times may vary based on the needs of participants and the study team. Responsibilities * Participate in and successfully complete study-specific training * Prepare participants before drawing blood * Explain blood draw procedures to participants and answer any questions about the process * Follow all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areas * Gather medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags and test tubes * Draw blood from participants * Verify participant information and label blood samples properly * Accurately update participant information in the study's database * Help nervous or frightened participants remain calm during blood draws * Do data entry on the CRF (study form) * Clean exam rooms between participants Qualifications All required qualifications must be documented on application materials An ideal candidate will also have excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to work in a team- based environment Required Qualifications * Training from a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Program, or on the job training with 1+ years of full-time experience. * One year direct care experience with adults and pediatrics. This position does not require licensure. * Strong desire to learn * Flexibility * Ability to multi-task and successfully prioritize tasks * Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively * Ability to work Fridays and Saturdays and/or other weekdays during daytime hours. Frequency varies. Preferred Qualifications: * Bilingual skills (Hmong, Somali, Spanish or ASL) * Interest and availability to travel to greater Minnesota to conduct health visits (travel expenses are paid by the study) Compensation: Hourly rate is commensurate with experience.
