About the Department: The Carlson School's Department of Work and Organizations consists of a multidisciplinary research faculty analyzing all aspects of work, the employment relationship, managing and leading people, the behavior of individuals and groups in organizations, and work-related institutions and public policies. We offer courses pertaining to human resources, managing and leading people and organizations, the behavior of individuals and groups in organizations and work-related institutions, and public policies throughout all of the Carlson School's programs including our Top 20 undergraduate program, MBA and specialty Master's, doctoral programs, and internationally recognized Master's program in Human Resources and Industrial Relations. Our programs are consistently highly ranked; current ranking data can be found here. The Department has 14 tenured/tenure-track faculty and 2 full-time instructional faculty. We are looking for an extraordinary colleague who will teach some combination of undergraduate, MBA, and professional master's courses. Duties The Senior Lecturer position is responsible for teaching 24 credits during a 9-month academic year (September - May). The teaching assignments could be at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This position will teach multiple sections of a course, and the candidate should have the ability to teach a combination of courses. Potential courses could be: human capital management; staffing and selection; training and development; compensation and benefits; leadership; org behavior: groups & teams; diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Be able to teach courses in various modalities, including in person courses and remote/online courses. Utilize a variety of instructional methods and technologies to enhance student learning outcomes. Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that values diversity and encourages active student participation. Duties also include various service appointments on departmental and/or collegiate committees to represent the program, providing advice to undergraduate and graduate students (e.g., as part of the students' independent studies or in other settings), and course coordination responsibilities. This is a non-tenure track Academic Professional/Administrative position for a nine month ac demic year. Subsequent renewals, if any, will be on a nine month academic calendar, dependent upon annual performance reviews and funding availability. Limited teaching during the summer may be available on an overload basis. The employer reserves the right to change or assign other duties to this position Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience (starting salary range: $95,000-$100,000). Qualifications Essential Qualifications Master's degree in Human Resources, M.B.A., business-related advanced degree plus 15 years of related industry and/or academic experience. Teaching or training experience with a strong record of instructional effectiveness. Strong familiarity with human resource issues including staffing, training, development, compensation, job design, performance management, leadership, and employee/labor relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. degree (terminal degree) in Human Resources and Industrial Relations or a field related to HRIR, plus ten years of related industry and/or academic experience. Teaching experience in higher education with a strong record of student evaluations of teaching. Experience bridging human resources and other business functions, and/or experience working with human resource organizations and agencies. Understanding of careers in Human Resources and Industrial Relations. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of current pedagogical practices and willingness to integrate technology into teaching.
