Job ID359920 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyLR-Technical Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code4945 Employee ClassAFSCME Unit 7 - Technical About the Job This is an entry-level staff position in the Department of Chemistry teaching labs, whose duties consist of interacting with and serving the faculty, teaching assistants and students in our general chemistry laboratory courses. A successful candidate for this position will have a great deal of patience as well as good customer service skills. Overtime in the form of nighttime laboratory assistance might be required for this position. 25%- Assist undergraduate students in laboratory sections by checking out equipment, replacing broken glassware, replenishing chemicals, and other duties as assigned. 25% - Prepare chemical "unknowns" and re-fill chemical solutions for student analysis used in multiple laboratory courses at the same time. 25%- Participates in purchasing, preparing, and laying out supplies, equipment and apparatus. Provides technical assistance to professional staff personnel, graduate students and others in executing complex laboratory studies. 15%- Cleaning undergraduate labs between sections. Calibrating and testing laboratory equipment for proper functioning. 5% - Operates or uses a variety of laboratory equipment used in the collection, processing, classification, description, measurement and analysis of specimens, or data. 5% - Inventory of scientific materials. Qualifications Required Qualifications: High school graduation or the equivalent with science courses, including chemistry, and two years of experience in a relevant academic setting. Preferred Qualifications: College chemistry. Employment in a stockroom servicing collegiate level undergraduate laboratories. Chemical inventory experience.
