The pay range is $89,700.00 - $161,500.00

A role with Engineering and Technical Design means being on a team of engineers and technical designers who create products that truly embody the intent of Target-owned brands.

As a Senior Engineer specializing in Furniture, you will lead a dynamic, cross-functional team of engineers focused on developing innovative furniture and lighting products. You will drive technical processes to ensure products meet stringent quality, safety, and performance standards while fostering continuous improvement across multiple categories. In close collaboration with the Design Director and other key teams, you’ll help build a culture of innovation, efficiency, and partnership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical development and execution of furniture casegoods or upholstery.

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate closely with design, sourcing, quality, and merchant teams to bring product visions to life, guiding projects from concept through production.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing challenges, optimizing processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and meet production timelines.

  • Champion innovation by driving research and development initiatives and integrating new technologies and processes to maintain product competitiveness.

  • Define roles, responsibilities, and expectations for team members, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.

  • Cultivate a culture of curiosity, continuous learning, and experimentation to drive growth for both individuals and the team.

  • Partner with vendors to deliver on cost and brand goals.

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Product Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 8+ years of experience in product engineering, with a strong background in furniture development.

  • 2+ years of experience managing or mentoring teams, ideally in the furniture, lighting, or outdoor furniture industries.

  • Expertise in raw materials, manufacturing processes, and industry-standard safety/testing protocols.

  • Proficient in 2D/3D CAD software and other relevant engineering tools.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects independently and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing case goods, accent tables, home office, bedroom furniture, or seating.

  • Proven success in process optimization and creating scalable workflows.

  • Strong leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring engineers and driving both technical excellence and team cohesion.

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
