Job ID360327 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimePart-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8352R1 Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join a newly formed lab in the Neurosciences department, studying protein aggregation and neuronal death in Huntingtons Disease. Responsibilities include: Perform laboratory research (60%): * Work closely with the principal investigator (lab head) to perform mammalian cell culturing and animal work. * Prepare DNA, RNA and protein samples. * Genotyping, cut tissue sections with a sliding microtome or vibratome, perform immunohistochemistry, mount and image sections, and analyze images. * Participate in lab meetings to report on data and discuss findings. Ordering and receiving lab supplies (25%): * Place orders with vendors, track items, and ensure that orders are received. Maintain records of ordered items. Compare pricing between vendors to save money. * Ensure that lab supplies are organized and appropriately stocked. General support (15%): * Prepare common laboratory stock solutions (such as phosphate buffer, fixative, ethanol). * Ensure that laboratory supplies are within expiration dates, and identify supplies soon to expire. Qualifications Required qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, or related life-sciences field or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years. * Research experience in one of the following areas: histology, molecular biology, or imaging. * Experience handling and caring for animal subjects. * Excellent organization and record keeping skills. Preferred qualifications: * Experience with animal perfusions, tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, image analysis. * Experience with mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR and western blotting. * Experience with primary neurons acquisition and manipulation. * Coursework in neuroscience and math.
