The principal investigator (PI) is Dr. Baselga-Cervera, an experimental microbiologist whose research uses experimental evolution and bioprospection to test the nature of microbial interactions, the emergence of complexity, adaptation to extreme environments, how global change steers evolution and host-microbialinteractions. Our lab is interdisciplinary, and the researcher will carry on experiments and use techniques ranging from microscopy to computational analyses to state-of-the-art molecular biology. We are a new laboratory, and in joining you will be able to help shape the culture of the lab. Annual Salary Range: $41,600 to $49,920 ($20 to $24 per hour) pending qualifications Job Duties and Responsibilities : * 75%- Research (Work will be mainly performed in the wet lab). -Supports scientists in research. -Conduct independent investigations or experiments in an assigned area, including tasks such as isolations, periodical transfers, sample storage, population phenotyping, microscopic assessment, and DNA extractions. - Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results from ongoing and new studies. *15%-Lab maintenance -Assist with setup and update of protocols related with laboratory techniques revisions, continuing reviews, and other regulatory processes related to research projects. -Perform equipment maintenance, cleaning and disinfection. -Assist in training and operational guidance of new laboratory personnel (including postdocs, staff, and students) in the above *10%-Collaborative research -Report to and interact with the P.I. and other project coinvestigators. -Performs literature reviews and assists in writing reports. -Contribute to laboratory meetings to support the ongoing laboratory efforts. -Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required qualifications: -The qualified candidate should have received a bachelor's degree in one of the relevant fields (preferably in Biology, Microbiology, Ecology, Evolution, Environmental Sciences or a related field). A strong academic background is highly preferred. The ability to multitask, learn new tasks, and organize many types of data from multiple projects accurately. Ability to work effectively with colleagues from different departments or areas of expertise to achieve common objectives. -BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years; applies knowledge and skill to a recurring task or activity with emphasis typically on precision and timeliness of execution. Preferred Qualifications: -Master's degree -Experience with wet lab research. -Demonstrated experience in statistical analysis and data management/curation of data sets. -Experience conducting ecological field research and environmental samples. -Experience with control laboratory studies, handling bee specimens and microscopy. -Capacity to perform both independently and as part of a team -Ability to prioritize multiple projects and activities within project deadlines.
