National Marrow Donor Program Principal Research Informaticist - Remote-2400002M in Minneapolis, Minnesota

POSITION SUMMARY:Please apply online using a laptop or desktop computer.The Principal Research Informaticist at the Center for International Blood & Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) is a critical role focused on the integration, management, and transformation of health data. Leveraging key health data standards such as HL7 FHIR, this position will oversee the acquisition of data from transplant center source systems, utilizing and optimizing our Clinical Knowledge Management system for effective mapping / integration to internal systems and external standards. This is a remote position (US). #LI-RemoteCheck out our video Saving Lives: It's the Best Job EverACCOUNTABILITIES:Architect and implement data integration strategies using HL7 FHIR / mCode, and other relevant health data standards, leveraging vocabularies & terminologies like SNOMED CT, LOINC or ICD-10.Manage and enhance Symedical for Knowledge Management, ensuring efficient data mapping and correlation to standards like OMOP, NCI Meta Thesaurus, and others.Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to identify data needs and ensure technical solutions align with both clinical and research objectives.Provide training and support to internal teams and external partners on data interoperability standards, tools, and best practices.Provide expertise in health data transformation and standardization, supporting advanced research and clinical decision-making.Develop a strategic roadmap for advancing health informatics, focusing on innovation, efficiency, and compliance with evolving data standards.Provide strategic vision and technical direction in enabling seamless data exchange between transplant center source systems and our data repositories.Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and best practices in health data management, including HIPAA and GDPR where applicable.Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including IT teams, data analysts, and healthcare professionals, to understand requirements and drive alignment on technical solutions.Develop and maintain relationships with software vendors and service providers, ensuring alignment with CIBMTR's technological needs and goals.Actively partner with standards communities (e.g., HL7 FHIR, Codex Accelerators) to influence and drive standards evolution in line with CIBMTR's objectives.Engage with vendors, including Symedical and other technology providers, to evaluate capabilities, recommend solutions, and ensure effective integration with existing systems.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Understanding of research informatics techniques and applications for high volume data and clinical associations. In addition to HL7 FHIR, must have knowledge or experience of biomedical vocabularies (SNOMED CT, LOINC, NCI Thesaurus, UMLS, UCUM, etc.), and common data models (BRIDG, OMOP, i2b2, etc.).Proficiency in Knowledge Management systems (e.g. Symedical).Advanced coding and documentation skills and in-depth knowledge for handling of complex datasets.Must be fluent in at least one modern programming language used for health informatics (Python, R, Java, Ruby, Perl) and be able to work with the others.Must have skills working with SQL and noSQL databases (Mongo, Neo4j, Redis).Proven leadership in technical teams and informatics projects.Excellent communication skills, able to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Established track record of solution delivery.Education and/or Experience:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.8 years of experience in Informatics, IT or a related discipline.5 years of experience in health informatics, clinical knowledge management and direct expertise in HL7 FHIR.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Additional qualifications that may make a person even more effective in the role, but are not required for consideration)Experience in blood and marrow transpla t data in a research or clinical setting.Experience with the development of ISO 11179-compliant data elementsKnowledge of data privacy and security regulations in healthcare, such as HIPAA and GDPR.Familiarity with data warehousing, big data technologies, and cloud computing in healthcare settings (e.g. Snowflake, AWS).Advanced analytical and data visualization skills, using tools like Looker, Qlik, Tableau or Power BI.DEI COMMITMENT:As part of our values, we are committed to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion at NMDP.
