Research projects will focus on the sustainable management of insect pests for both field corn and sweet corn. Primary responsibilities for this position include, but not limited to, conducting field, greenhouse and laboratory applied ecology and IPM research and other duties to be determined by your direct supervisor (60%). The selected applicant will provide support in research and writing proposals for extramural funding in IPM Research and writing peer-reviewed publications (20%). He/she will also develop and maintain different susceptible and resistant insect colonies (15%), and assist in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students (5%). Qualifications Essential Qualifications Ph.D. in Entomology, biology, or a related discipline with experience in integrated pest management and insect ecology, including experimental design and statistical analysis is required. Understanding of integrated pest management for corn insect pests from both above-ground and below-ground Demonstrated experience in developing proposals and conducting research in insect biology, ecology and resistance management Conscience etiquette for working chemical safety Superior English writing and speaking communication skills required. Proven record of peer-reviewed publications and presentation of research. Must be eligible to work in the United States Fieldwork will require having a valid driver's license. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other researchers and practitioners Preferred Qualifications Preferred expertise in integrated pest management, insect resistance, modeling, and population genetics Experience in rearing and handling lepidopteran and coleopteran insects Experience in conducting lab diet bioassays for Bt proteins and insecticides Experience in designing and conducting open field experiments for field crops A strong background in research design, and statistical analysis About the Department The Department of Entomology conducts research and educates people about the science of entomology, emphasizing the systematic, biodiversity, biology, ecology and importance of insects and their relatives in relation to human welfare, and the maintenance of a healthy environment.
