Job ID360408 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyAcademic Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9546 Employee ClassAcad Prof and Admin About the Job Job Description Dr. Emily Fairfax, an interdisciplinary researcher housed in the Department of Geography, Society, and the Environment in the College of Liberal Arts, as well as the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory within the College of Science and Engineering, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to execute a project with The Nature Conservancy. Job Responsibilities 75% - Field Research about Beavers in California Utilize beaver occupancy models, as well as performing QA/QC on AI beaver identification model outputs, to evaluate the potential population count and distribution of beavers. Improve beaver occupancy model infrastructure to better account for landscape changes that result from wildfire, dam removals, and drought. Use/develop appropriate computer modeling techniques to estimate total water and carbon storage in actual and potential beaver occupancy scenarios. Interface with The Nature Conservancy and California Department of Fish and Wildlife throughout the project 25% - Writing and Publications Write manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications based upon research findings. Produce technical reports for The Nature Conservancy based on this work. Qualifications Required Qualifications A PhD in environmental science or a related discipline by the start date Advanced GIS skills Strong knowledge of beaver ecosystem engineering Scientific programming proficiency (R, Python, Javascript, Julia, etc) Previous experience working with the BRAT (Beaver Restoration Assessment Tool) model Strong writing and public communication skills About the Department The St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL) is an interdisciplinary fluid mechanics research lab and educational facility under the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota.
