This position is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care and delivery of pharmacy services to the residents of the eight Minnesota Veterans Homes located across the state. This position is also responsible for assisting the Chief of Pharmacy in the daily operation of the MN Veterans Homes Central Pharmacy. The Central Pharmacy is a closed-door pharmacy located on the campus of the Minneapolis Veterans Home.
Job Duties:
Evaluate medication orders for appropriateness of drug, dosage, route of administration, and potential interactions. Ensure recommendations for changes of therapy are communicated to prescribers and nursing staff as appropriate.
Maintain resident medication profiles according to pharmacy professional practice standards.
Work collaboratively as a member of a healthcare team to ensure clinical pharmacy support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Maintain inventory in a cost-effective manner by utilizing State and Federal contracts and formularies.
Lead and direct pharmacy technicians.
Follows Agency policy, pharmacy operating procedures, and all state and federal regulations as they pertain to pharmacy. Notifies the Director of Pharmacy of any concerns.
Assists Veterans Home staff with procedures relating to safe and effective administration, procurement, storage, and disposition of pharmaceuticals.
Assist in the development of quality improvement and prescription processing accuracy.
Minimum Qualifications

Current Licensure as a Pharmacist from the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy
Knowledge of regulatory compliance such as Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), MN Board of Pharmacy, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
One year experience as a licensed Pharmacist
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory or lead worker experience
Experience in long-term care operations
Experience working with CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) regulation
