Business Innovation Academy is a middle school summer business day-camp for under-served youth, hosted by Carlson School Undergraduate Program, which welcomes 135 rising 7th/8th graders for three 1-week long sessions. Each session includes leadership development, college readiness, introduction to business, a case study, campus visits, Marketing, Accounting and Presentation Skills classes, and team presentations geared to spark youths' interest in business, hosted on the Twin Cities campus and Hanson Hall where they spend the week building a sense of belonging. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Pre-camp preparation: Researching effective lessons and teaching strategies that align with BIA goals, creating lesson plans, developing community building activities, organizing student lists, making seating charts and student groups, communication with parents, collaborating with Carlson staff to ensure materials and logistics are prepared. Weekly duties and tasks: Planning, developing, facilitating and leading a variety of collaborative, student-centered, and student-leadership learning experiences and activities through the University of Minnesota Innovation Camp; supporting student recruitment, transportation logistics, scheduling, and family communication to support students attending the camp; liaison for school districts regarding camp programming, scheduling, transportation, communication etc. Scope of Work: The Carlson School Undergraduate Office will hire two (2) Middle School Business Camp Classroom Facilitators, who will be expected to be prepared for, and execute, high quality in-person classroom facilitation from 7:30am - 3:30pm on the following dates: Preparation Week: July 15-19, 2024 Session 1: July 22-26, 2024 Session 2: July 29- August 2, 2024 Session 3: August 5-9, 2024 Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: At least 5 years of working experience with middle school students Currently holds a Minnesota Department of Education Tier 3 or Tier 4 License Experience creating lesson plans and teaching materials that meet students' needs and facilitate active learning Proven ability to maintain a safe and productive learning environment, develop and enforce rules, and monitor student behavior Willingness to pivot and be flexible with schedule and lesson plans; Capable of handling ambiguity and make reasonable decisions based on situation or potential barriers Familiarity with University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus and Buildings PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's level degree, preferably applicable to field of education Past positive experience working with the Carlson School Undergraduate Program and/or Business Innovation Academy How To Apply Applications must be submitted online.
