Overview

M Health Fairview is looking for a full time benefit eligible Laboratory Medical Assistant to work at M Health Fairview Clinic - Uptown (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-clinic---uptown) . This is an 8-hour shift position with one weekend per month at an Urgent Care location in the south region. The work hours are between 7:00am to 8:30pm. Other sites that this position may cover are M Health Fairview Clinic - Eden Prairie (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-clinic---eden-prairie) , M Health Fairview Clinic - Edina (https://www.mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-clinic---edina) and M Health Fairview Clinic - Burnsville (https://www.mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-clinic---burnsville) .

Responsibilities Job Description

The Lab MA plays an important role in providing quality, proficient and professional laboratory services to diverse populations within an ambulatory healthcare environment. They gather information to support the patient visit. This includes laboratory specimen collection, safe and secure specimen handling, ensuring efficient workflow, scheduling tests and providing results as appropriate.

The MA also performs waived and moderate testing, performs routine analysis and, using standard operating procedures (SOP), operates and maintains instrumentation and information systems.

The MA works independently under general supervision in the Clinic Laboratory.

Job Expectations:

  • Follows established guidelines to obtain specimens. perform waived or moderate testing and report results.

  • Collect and process biological specimens with appropriate technique following established SOP

  • Perform routine testing analysis and verify assay/analyzer performance according to SOP in an efficient, cost effective manner. Any combination of the following areas may be included: Hematology, Coagulation, Microbiology, Serology, Immunology, Immunohematology, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Urinalysis, and Phlebotomy.

  • Document and communicate lab test results thoroughly and accurately.

  • Perform and document maintenance procedures plus maintain adequate supplies.

  • Seeks assistance appropriately for problem or unusual situations.

  • Consistently implement and follow the laboratory customer service standards. The standards include maintaining confidentiality, promoting teamwork, successful communication and conflict resolution. This may include:

  • Schedule tests/procedures according to SOPs

  • Verify patient demographic and billing insurance information for lab only employees

  • Explain test procedures when applicable to patients in a manner geared to gain their confidence and cooperation and relieve anxiety about the test.

  • Supports and adheres to laboratory SOPs, quality assurance, performance improvement and compliance programs recognizing trends and identifying when additional reporting, communication or other action is appropriate.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program

  • Vocational/Technical Training or Associate Degree which includes the completion of a clinical internship of at least 3 months duration or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA’88

License/Certification/Registration:

  • Eligibility for American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) or Phlebotomy Certification within 12 months of hire

  • Initial or proof of existing certification and receipt of American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) or Phlebotomy Certification within 24 months of hire

  • Certification must be maintained at the expense of the employee and is required for continued employment.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire

Preferred Experience:

  • Phlebotomy skills.

  • 1-3 years laboratory experience.
