Barr Engineering Internship - Landscape Architect in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Description: Summary: This internship will include work on landscape architectural and native plant community restoration projects, such as innovative storm water treatment system design, park design, trails, vegetation surveys, and natural resource management planning. Project work will integrate sustainable landscape and ecological design principles with traditional landscape architecture. The intern will assist Barr's landscape architects, civil engineers, and natural resources group with a variety of ecologically oriented design and planning projects. The work will involve assisting with the production of construction plans, construction observation, restoration management plans, and graphics. The work will also include the production of detailed cost estimates and technical specifications related to the designs. The position offers an opportunity to contribute and learn as part of a progressive and innovative design team providing landscape architecture, landscape ecology, climate adaptation, environmental engineering, and natural resources planning services to our clients. Minimum Qualifications: Pursuing a bachelor's or master's in landscape architecture, horticulture or natural resources, or other related degrees from an accredited program Demonstrated interest in landscape architecture Exposure to AutoCAD Exposure to the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign) GPA of 3.0 minimum (on a 4.0 scale) Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients Completed or enrolled in coursework such as site design, construction detailing, planting design, ecology and soils. At least one full-time semester of undergraduate or graduate course work remaining after internship is complete A flexible working style and the ability to work with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs Willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs Detail-oriented, thorough, and organized approach Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.) Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Note: Applicant must be able to traverse and work in difficult terrain typical of backcountry, roadway, and construction sites, walking up to 10 miles per day in temperatures up to 98 degrees Fahrenheit. Work may also require entering and working within facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of mining or other industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Open positions at Barr Engineering Co. do not have application deadlines.
