The Grants/Contracts Professional 3-Preaward will join the Peds-RSS team in supporting investigators engaged in translational, clinical and basic research. The Peds-RSS team is responsible for pre- and non-financial post-award coordination and project management of federal, foundation, and industry sponsored grants and contracts. Peds-RSS has a history of strong mentorship for team members and offers an environment for collaboration and growth in departmental research administration. Position Overview: The Grants/Contracts Professional 3 (working title: Grant Coordinator) will manage an independent workload of grant activity, including proposal and progress report submissions, compliance monitoring, data and file management, and other administrative tasks. This individual will work closely with faculty and other Principal Investigators (PIs), research personnel, department accounting staff, central Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) staff, and other partners to facilitate proposal and grant activities. This individual will provide expert guidance to PIs and other staff on the preparation, submission, and non-financial post-award management of external and internal funding. As an active member of the Peds-RSS team, this individual will assist in creating tools and improving process, along with other pre- and non-financial post-award functions as assigned. Salary range is $76,000 - $86,000, depending on qualifications Responsibilities: Proposal Preparation and Award Management (75%) Manage the proposal preparation and submission process from initial development through point of award for investigators including faculty, postdoctoral associates/fellows, graduate students, and other investigators. In addition to standard research grants, this may include preparing complex proposals for federal clinical studies, career development awards, as well as for unique funding opportunities. For each proposal submission, responsibilities include: review sponsor's request for proposals; prepare timelines for submission; prepare budget and administrative portions of the proposal; obtain subaward documentation; finalize all parts of the proposal; prepare and route applications in the University's internal Minnesota Grants Electronic Management System (MN-GEMS); liaise with departmental and collegiate administration and Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) throughout the submission process; and communicate with the sponsor as needed. Understand and communicate sponsor and University requirements and/or restrictions regarding PI/staff eligibility, cost sharing, F&A sharing, budget limitations, and other sponsor requirements. Identify solutions to sponsor restrictions and ensure final proposal is compliant with relevant policies and guidance. Develop budgets for sponsored projects in collaboration with the PI(s), unit administrative staff, and accounting personnel. Manage application forms for proposals and awards, using sponsor systems such as ASSIST, Workspace, proposal Central, etc. Manage the non-financial aspects of award setup and management, including submission of Just in Time information and interim and final progress reports. Compliance and Administration (15%) Monitor pre- and post-award compliance issues, including FCOI, RCR, sponsors' public access policies, other support documentation, use of human subjects or vertebrate animals, etc. Advise PIs on managing public access compliance issues. Provide guidance and support on PMC, NIHMS, and MyNCBI accounts and submissions. Keep accounting personnel informed about issues relevant to propo als and awards. Work closely with accounting personnel to ensure an efficient transition from pre-award to post-award phase. Ensure compliance with University research policies and procedures in all tasks. Maintain electronic files on proposal and award activity. Participate in other grants administrative duties as assigned, which may include monitoring and triaging a centralized team email inbox, processing intake forms, and maintaining a calendar of Peds-RSS activity. Development and Planning (10%) Participate in regular Peds-RSS planning meetings regarding current issues, policy updates, workload, processes, future tool development, etc. Assist with new departmental research initiatives as they are developed. Propose and evaluate solutions to resolve recurring problems. Provide input on templates/job aids and additional guidance for new and experienced PIs to make processes more efficient and documents more thorough and accurate. Continue professional development by attending relevant courses, workshops, seminars/webinars, professional society meetings and other training opportunities, both internal and external to the University of Minnesota. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four years of professional experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight years. Experience performing administrative, budgetary, or grant-related duties Experience in technology and software as related to the needs of the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Adobe, Google suite, etc.) Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects with fixed deadlines and ability to re-prioritize tasks as needed to successfully meet all deadlines Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with sponsored projects, especially with federal sponsors Experience working in higher education Administrative, financial, or other experience with clinical research Experience with electronic proposal submission systems such as Grants.gov, ProposalCentral and other grants management systems, sponsor grant databases (e.g., NIH RePORTER) and funding opportunity databases (e.g., Pivot) Excellent team member skills and the ability to effectively interface with all levels of the organization (students, staff, faculty, central administration) Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative, accountability, and follow-through on complex and sensitive issues Effective problem identification and problem solving skills Benefits Working at the University At the University of Minnesota, you'll find a flexible work environment and supportive colleagues who are interested in lifelong learning.
