Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing semi-skilled jobs in a variety of trade areas and for the upkeep of the lawns, sidewalks, entryways and parking ramp/lot services.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Make minor repairs and adjustments to plumbing fixtures, water and drain lines, electrical systems, lighting and equipment, walls and floors, cabinets, furniture, shelves, doors, locks, and machines of various kinds.
Maintain lawns so that they remain aesthetically pleasing. Operate and maintain equipment including push mowers, riding mowers, trimmers and blowers.
Report any defective, broken, or unsafe equipment to your supervisor. Attach tag on the handle of the equipment stating problem, date, and name of person reporting the problem. Clear snow and ice from campus sidewalks, ramps, parking lots and driveways so that users may move safely about the campus. Operate and maintain equipment including snow blowers, sweepers and bobcat.
Remove trash and debris from campus grounds to ensure a clean hazard and vermin-free environment by manually collecting and hauling refuse to dumpsters.
Operate and maintain forklifts to load and unload trucks, and to move materials and equipment throughout campus.
Use phone and computer systems including e-mail, work order system, voice messaging, preventive maintenance schedules, and perform related work as directed by supervisor.
Responsible for checking and responding to the work order system, email and voicemail twice during each shift, once at the start of the shift and once immediately following lunch break.
Perform as a safe and efficient team member of the Facilities Department so that all the goals of the department are met.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of motorized equipment and tools sufficient to operate them and perform simple repair and maintenance on them.
Knowledge of methods of lawn and garden care sufficient to mow, fertilize, weed, seed and sod as necessary.
Knowledge of construction sufficient to construct and repair simple structures.
Knowledge of general methods of practices of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry trades.
Ability to perform semi-skilled work in a number of trade areas and to assist with more difficult work.
Ability to operate, maintain and make ordinary repairs of tools, machinery and equipment.
Ability to follow and respond to oral and written instructions and communications.
Physical Requirements
Regularly engage in bending, lifting (up to 25 pounds), and maneuvering tasks.
Navigate uneven terrains while moving from place to place.
Maintain seated or standing positions for prolonged duration.
Frequently transport heavy equipment across campus property.
Additional Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
Current and former employees must be in good standing with Minneapolis College to be considered for the position.
