This position serves as primary driver or alternate driver on various Recycle routes as necessary. Trucks may be equipped with power tailgate. Conducts pre-trip and post trip inspections of assigned vehicle. Maintains daily log of truck activity; comments on operation of truck, and informs supervisor of needed repairs. (75%) Performs collection routes for various solid waste streams, working alone. Route may include daily pick up of recyclables, e-waste, pallets, bio-hazardous materials, used furniture and miscellaneous items. Routinely responds to requests from supervisor and/or dispatch. (20% of time) Performs warehouse duties including organizing and sorting recyclables, Performs various other duties as assigned. (5% of time) This job may be designated as essential. The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Work Environment: Work is performed inside vehicles, in a warehouse setting, and outside exposed to the elements. A significant part of each work day may be spent sitting. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED required. At least one year experience operating medium or light trucks as a delivery driver. Valid Minnesota Driver's License and no chargeable driving offenses within the 12 months preceding employment. Must have a minimum of one year (2088 hours) of professional driving experience, which includes pay for driving vehicles such as a bus, truck or delivery vehicle. Successful candidates must also have the ability to interpret traffic signs and understand Minnesota traffic laws and regulations. Essential Qualification: Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to twist, bend, stoop, climb ladders, climb stairs, lift up to and over 10-75 pounds regularly, reach at and below shoulder height, squat, kneel, walk on uneven ground, carry 25-75 pounds, carry over 50 pounds, reach above shoulder height Ability to be exposed to the sight and smell of animal carcasses and bio-hazardous materials weighting up to 75 pounds on a daily basis Previous driving experience preferred Knowledge of construction materials and equipment preferred Ability to interact with fellow employees, management, customers, and the general public in a courteous, cooperative, and professional manner Maintain a positive public image, positive attitude, and demeanor when performing service for customers and the general public at the University Benefits Working at the University At the University of Minnesota, you'll find a flexible work environment and supportive colleagues who are interested in lifelong learning.
