As the Compliance Specialist at the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), you will provide state level leadership, general supervision and oversight of compliance with due process and procedural safeguards, conferred educational benefit and the provision of a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) to children, birth through twenty-two, who receive special education and related services in Minnesota schools. Duties will include:

  • Provide consultation and professional advice to special education directors, school district personnel and others regarding issues of compliance;

  • Develop evaluation instruments and methodology used to determine the degree of implementation of required standards;

  • Provide technical assistance and training regarding compliance data and the monitoring process.

Minimum Qualifications

5 years of professional experience with Special Education program planning at the school or district level

OR

A bachelor's or master's degree and 4 years of professional experience Special Education program planning at the school or district level

Experience must include:

  • Demonstrated leadership or administrative capacity at a school district level that includes the development of improvements in special education program, staff development and/or compliance assurance

  • Experience with government, education or special education programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Special Education leadership experience as the lead teacher, coordinator, or at the director level

  • Experience working in a system of continuous improvement, implementation science and results-based decision making

  • Experience with data collection and analytics

  • Familiarity with adult-centered training and provision of technical assistance
