The incumbent at this level is a learned professional responsible for problems of moderate difficulty that can be resolved through analyzing possible solutions utilizing standard procedures. This position works under limited supervision, and technical guidance is required for unusual and complex problems/projects. These positions are part of the Academic Support Resources (ASR) department, which supports vital processes and systems at the University of Minnesota. ASR supports hybrid and. Work arrangements are determined in coordination with supervisors depending on the nature of the unit and position. The arrangement for this position will be determined upon hire between employee and supervisor. Production Support (Maintenance) 40% Work with clients to map current and future business processes and align technology solutions with short- and long-term business strategies. Document business requirements and create detailed function/technical system specifications. Create detailed test plans. Execute test plans and document test statistics metrics and results. Work with clients and technical group to resolve system issues. Evaluate and follow through on issues and problems until resolved or escalated. Evaluate issue patterns to plan and execute process improvements and system upgrades. Design data reporting and business intelligence systems to meet client business needs. Create reports to support business decisions. Provide training and technical guidance to less experienced staff. Assist in the rapid and thorough resolution of production issues. Evaluate, document, and report issues to management. Work with clients and technical resources to troubleshoot production emergencies. Assist in the implementation of "workarounds" when system issues affect business needs. Maintain in-depth knowledge of all business processes in one or multiple business areas. Function as application expert (second tier support) for help-line staff. Upgrade Support (Software bundles, releases, upgrades) 25% Analyze releases for testing applicability. Create test conditions. Create test scripts. Perform testing. Report defects. Project Support and Implementation (New systems, Modifications, Business Process Improvement) 15% Formulate and define systems scope and objectives. Lead small scale or sub-functional teams for system design, modification, upgrade, and implementation projects. Work on projects to gather, analyze, and document business requirements and assist with the translation into technical requirements. Significant emphasis on the test cycle, including the creation and execution of test plans, as well as testing and documenting results. Identify, define, and document business process and application requirements in order to create To-Be business process flows for proposed system changes. Understand and perform elements of standard project management methodology. Business Support 10% Assist users in understanding systems. Provide management updates. Provide updates and perform presentations at user informational sessions and user group conferences. Work with business units to assess current capabilities and identify high-level requirements. Work with Trainers to provide end user training and updates for new and changed applications. Operations Support 5% Participate in annual planning and setup. Gain and maintain an overall understanding of the elements comprising the annual cycle (academic year, aid year, fiscal year). Run jobs and reports as needed. Individual Development Planning (IDP)5% Gain and maintain knowledge of tools used to support the enterprise systems. Example are: SQR, SQL, PeopleTools, workflow, equation engine, application engine, query based updates, and web tools. Qualifications ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS degree plus at least two years of relevant full-time work experience, or a master's degree. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of financial aid, student finance, student records, CRM, and non credit registration business processes and application systems. Knowledge of PeopleSoft. Experience with SQL. Experience at a university or college. Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills Experience working in student services. Working knowledge of project management techniques. Working knowledge of requirements definition techniques. Working knowledge of relational databases.
