Apply for Job Job ID362211 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimePart-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9742R6 Employee ClassAcad Prof and Admin Add to Favorite Jobs Email this Job About the Job Major job functions for this position include the following. 1) Analyze genomic datasets - 65% * Processing of sequence data from Illumina, Pacific Biosciences, and Oxford Nanopore instruments, * Investigating data quality issues * Analysis of single-cell and spatial datasets * Meet with customers to assist with experimental design, troubleshooting, and results interpretation 2) Assist the Development and Research groups with improving services, developing new services, analysis and interpretation of research project datasets - 20% * Analyze datasets to assist with optimizing laboratory methods. * Serve as the primary bioinformatics resource for the Genomics Center's Innovation Lab 3) Assist with the maintenance and development of the Genomics Center's informatics infrastructure - 15% * Assist with data management * Assist with analysis pipeline development * Assist with computer system management * Remain up to date on developments in the field * Length of probationary period: 12 months * Percent time of appointment: 100% * Term and type of appointment: 12 Month Annual Contract * Work days: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-4:30PM and Profile Four - Fully Remote: Time spent working remotely is 100% with occasional but inconsistent presence in UMN locations. Collaborative or shared on campus work space to be provided while on campus. Must be able to lift 25 pounds. The Employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Qualifications Required Qualifications: - Requires advanced degree with substantial research and publication record - Experience developing and executing analysis workflows for high-throughput sequence data. - Proficiency using bioinformatics software tools in a Unix computing environment. - Strong programming skills. - Excellent oral and written English communication and interpersonal skills. - Critical and independent thinking. Preferred Qualifications: - Doctorate in computational or biological science field plus least 3 years of bioinformatics experience. - At least 6 years of experience or terminal degree plus at least 3 years of experience. - Experience working with datasets from a wide range of sequencing technologies, including sequencing platforms (Illumina, PacBio, IonTorrent) and library preparation methods (barcoding, multiplexing/demultiplexing, UMIs). - Extensive experience providing bioinformatics support to research groups, advising on experimental design, platform selection, and troubleshooting data quality issues. - Extensive experience working in a Linux computing environment (software and library installation, resource management, data management, high-performance computing environments). - Strong programming and scripting skills. - Experience with graphing libraries and databases. - Experience developing analysis pipelines and automating data analysis. - Strong troubleshooting skills. - Familiarity with molecular biology lab techniques. - Ability to independently develop expertise with new platforms, technologies, and data types. - Experience with single-cell and spatial genomics platforms and methodology. 5. About the Department The University of Minnesota Genomics Center is hiring a skilled and experienced bioinformatics analyst to support the cutting-edge genomics services the Genomics Center provides to researchers and clinicians at the University of Minnesota, and to external academic and industry scientists. The University of Minnesota Genomics Center exists to advance the use of genomics and achieves this mission by acquiring state-of-the-art instrumentation and ffering an array of complete services, including sequencing, Next-generation Sequencing, long-read sequencing, expression analysis, genotyping, epigenomics, single-cell genomics, metagenomics, as well as related support services such as nucleic acid extraction and quality control. We seek a bioinformatician with broad software and analytical skills to join the University of Minnesota Genomics Center. This new position will include roles in our Operations, Development, and Research groups. The position will require the running, maintaining, and troubleshooting of specialized databases and software necessary to analyze data, as well as involvement in grant application and scientific publishing.
