Job Summary

The Associate Fixed Income Research Analyst - Securitized Assets is responsible for analyzing and recommending the purchase and sale of public corporate bonds and related securities with the analysts assigned industries under the guidance of a senior research analyst. This position also is responsible for monitoring existing investments, managing credit risk, making industry recommendations in conjunction with a senior analyst, and maintaining relative weighting and relative value recommendations within the credit market.

This position is an entry-level investment professional role, responsible for dependent research under the guidance of a senior research analyst.

The Fixed Income research function is responsible for conducting research analyses on specific organizations, securities, financial products, and the overall economic environment. The US Corporate Bonds/Credits focus covers corporate bonds issued by US corporations.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist with the fundamental analysis on companies, industries, and sectors.

  • Support the development and maintenance of financial models to help evaluate credit worthiness.

  • Prepare preliminary credit reports and assist in the preparation of providing relative value opinions and portfolio recommendations.

  • Collaborate with senior analysts and portfolio managers in managing credit risk by monitoring existing holdings and portfolio weightings.

  • May learn how to analyze company financial statements from a bondholder’s perspective to develop an opinion of a company’s operational strengths, weaknesses and directional outlook.

  • Proactively and timely communicate relevant information to senior analysts.

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on credit analysis and investment strategies.

  • Utilize all available technological resources to maximize efficiency.

  • Accountable for the completion of assigned deliverables with significant day-to-day management.

  • Uses judgement, but supervision required for overall task.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics or related field.

  • Zero to two years of prior investment professional experience (entry level).

  • Self-motivated and drive to learn from multiple senior analysts, director and portfolio managers.

  • Strong analytical, mathematical, statistical and problem solving skills.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.

  • Ability and eagerness to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • High level of organization and attention to detail.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree PLUS progress toward CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), CQF (Certificate in Quantitative Finance), FRM (Financial Risk Manager), or CERA (Charted Enterprise Risk Analyst).

Other Critical Factors

  • Responsible for analyzing, recommending, and trading securitized asset bonds and related securities. Perform fundamental analysis on issuers/sectors within the securitized universe.

  • Analyze risks including prepayment sensitivity, underlying collateral performance, and other risks.

  • Assist in developing relative value opinions at the asset class and sector level that will translate into portfolio recommendations.

  • Assist in managing credit and prepayment risk in all sectors by monitoring existing holdings and portfolio weights.

Additional Information

  • This position requires you to work on-site in Minneapolis, MN 4 to 5 days a week.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $90,281.00 - $122,145.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
