Dorsey & Whitney Accountant in Minneapolis, Minnesota

We are seeking an Accountant to join our Finance department in our Minneapolis office. As a key team member, you will be responsible for the monthly accounting cycle for journal entries, reconciliations, and the month-end closing process. You will also participate in the annual budget and audit processes. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, possesses excellent critical thinking skills, and has at least one year of accounting or auditing experience. This is a hybrid position in our Minneapolis office. In this role, you will: Prepare journal entries, reconcile various general ledger accounts, and independently investigate and resolve reconciling differences. Execute the month-end and year-end close process and complete the monthly balancing documents. Participate in Treasury functions such as the daily processing and submitting of positive pay files. Liaise with other departments, interpret and respond to their questions or requests for financial information. Assist with maintaining Fixed Asset records. Gather information and prepare schedules for the Firm s year-end audit and federal/state tax returns as needed. Participate in annual government and industry surveys. Contribute to the preparation of the Firm s fiscal year expense budget, including review of information submitted by other administrative departments. Uphold, review, and propose enhancements to the Firm s internal controls. Support the Managers within the Accounting department and the CFO on projects as needed. Act as backup for various accounting functions such as cash receipts and trust transactions. Execute other duties and complete ad hoc analysis as assigned. TAX FOCUS Prepare various monthly and quarterly tax filings including Sales and Use, Property Tax, Commercial Business Rent, Payroll Expense, GST/PST. Prepare annual Unclaimed Property filings in multiple jurisdictions. PAYROLL/PARTNER ACCOUNTING FOCUS Interface with payroll; facilitate the bi-weekly and monthly payroll upload process for all employees and partners including the investigation of errors and determination of corrective actions. Assist with the monthly partner distribution calculations. Assist with preparing capital contribution schedules including capital refunds and promissory notes.
