THE ABILITY CENTER Adaptive Sports Coordinator in MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Overview: The Adaptive Program Coordinator will support gym and recreational programming for The Ability Center, including the Adaptive Scholastic Athletic Program (ASAP), Open Gym, 3v3 Wheelchair Basketball, RampUp, and the Wisconsin Thunder. This role involves assisting with program execution, maintaining relationships with schools and community organizations, and ensuring inclusive and well-organized experiences for participants of all abilities. The coordinator will focus on program support, community outreach, and maintaining adaptive equipment. Key Responsibilities: 1. Program Support and Coordination o Assist in coordinating the Adaptive Scholastic Athletic Program (ASAP), Open Gym, RampUp, and 3v3 Wheelchair Basketball programs. o Support the management of relationships with schools, community organizations, and partner agencies to facilitate programming opportunities. o Help plan, schedule, and oversee the execution of events, ensuring smooth operations before, during, and after each event. 2. Event Facilitation o Support the organization and facilitation of adaptive games and activities for participants during events. o Assist in setting up and tearing down equipment at events. o Be present at events to manage participant check-ins, handle waivers, and contribute to creating an inclusive environment. 3. Community Outreach and Growth o Contribute to expanding program reach by engaging with physical therapy offices, rehabilitation centers, veteran groups, and other relevant organizations. o Support efforts to increase program participation and enhance program offerings. 4. 3v3 Wheelchair Basketball Support o Assist with recruiting and managing teams, ensuring all required paperwork is completed. o Support scheduling, game result management, and communication with teams. o Help oversee league operations to ensure a balanced and competitive experience. 5. Wisconsin Thunder Support: Assist with the management of the Wisconsin Thunder wheelchair basketball program, including scheduling tournaments, managing registrations, and supporting athlete development. 6. General Responsibilities o Attend community outreach events to promote programs. Assist in managing and maintaining the inventory and storage of adaptive sports equipment. Support the upkeep of storage facilities, including performing maintenance tasks as needed. 7. Other duties: o Responds to evolving organizational needs by taking on additional duties as needed from all departments. o Assist with tasks and projects from other departments as needed, contributing to the overall success of The Ability Center. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications: Associate or Bachelor\'s degree or related experience. Knowledge and experience with Adaptive Recreation and Fitness is a plus. Minimum of 2 years of experience in program development, management, and execution. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working or volunteering with a diverse population of adults and children, in a nonprofit setting. Willing to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends. Proficient use and understanding of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The type of person that will really succeed in this role will have: Passion, empathy, and openness to people with disabilities. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently, reliably, and with minimal supervision. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written. A background as a Physical Education Teacher with an Adaptive Specialty or Certification, or as a Rec Therapist with experience in adaptive sports.
