Carmeuse Americas Manager, Project Management in MILTON, Ontario

Job Summary:

The Manager of Project Management will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and tracking of all projects and activities in the project management department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering principles, project management methodologies, and team leadership. The Manager of Project Management acts as the project delivery authority for the business. This position reports directly to the Operations Director and has the responsibility for the development and growth of the project management department. He/she will also be the primary liaison for the customer, directing communications and settling concerns or issues should they arise.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of the project management department.

  • Develop and implement project management strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives.

  • Lead and mentor a team of project managers and support staff, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, finance, and operations, to ensure project success.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, and vendors.

  • Provide regular project updates to senior management and stakeholders.

  • Drive continuous improvement in project management processes and techniques.

  • Provide guidance to project managers so that they successfully direct and manage project development from the initiation through to completion of projects, whilst meeting customer expectations and protecting the interest of the company.

  • Ensure that quality, safety, customer service and financial objectives are achieved on every project.

  • Work with the Engineering Manager to resource projects with direction on who is working on what.

  • Ensure robust yet fit-for-purpose project delivery processes systems are implemented so that project performance and health can be monitored

  • Taking part in regular project reviews to ensure project managers are executing to maintain quality, cost, and schedule.

  • Assist with establishment of project payment milestones and commercial negotiations as laid out in customer contract.

  • Act as project sponsor on projects as required.

  • Elevate risks as required, to the company Operations Director, affecting project performance.

  • Review Project Execution Plan with the project manager by assessing project budget (PBU), critical path items, and project risks, prior to project initiation.

  • Understand the status of all project schedules and deliverable milestones at a high level.

  • Report customer complaints to Quality Manager & other Manager as deemed appropriate.

  • Provide the management push to conducting project closeout meeting with clients and project team to gather feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Ensure adherence to the Carmeuse Systems Quality Management System

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets.

  • Ensure and enforce compliance to all company, client and legislated safety policies and procedures

  • Any additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing people.

  • 10+ years’ related experience as a Project Manager.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certified.

  • Bachelor of Engineering or a technical science (Mechanical or Process engineering preferred)

  • Demonstrated experience managing projects from $250K to $10 million. Experience working in a design-supply or design-build environment, or custom manufacturing of industrial equipment a definite asset.

  • Must have integrity, self-awareness, courage, respect, compassion, and resilience.

  • Must be learning agile and flex their influence while communicating the vision, showing gratitude, and collaborating effectively.

  • Strong commercial understanding of project contracts

  • Ability to read various engineering documents (such as mechanical and electrical drawings)

  • Technical understanding of mechanical devices and electrical components a definite asset

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) an asset

Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge in project management methodologies and project delivery systems

  • Deep knowledge of his/own engineering discipline and strong understanding of other engineering disciplines

  • Proficient in project management software and tools (MS Projet, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, ERP)

  • Strong understanding of the engineering work processes, control of documents, and project lifecycle

  • Successfully creates and presents technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory codes and standards such as ASME, API, etc.

  • Self-motivated and understands objectives and is proactive in their approach to achieve them. Looks for opportunities to improve upon those objectives. Does not wait to be told what is important or when to act.

  • Professional image focused by adhering to company policies on attire and understanding that their business environment can dictate how they should appear.

Work Environment

  • Typical hours: 37.5 hour work weeks – hours vary due to work. Additional hours may be required

  • Travel is required

  • Warehouse or construction site environment at times.
