General Responsibilities:

Terracon's Salt Lake City office is looking for a talented addition to our Environmental Department! As one of the largest and most-established environmental consulting firms in Utah, Terracon has an incredible team of environmental professionals and amazing clients. We are looking for a mid-level scientist with a background in Environmental Regulatory Compliance.

The ideal candidate will have good experience preparing storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), coordinating and managing storm water sampling events, preparing Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plans (SPCCs), and/or preparing air emissions permits, compliance documents, and emissions inventory reports.

In this role you will prepare applicable environmental regulatory permit applications to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations and write technical documents including proposals, reports and regulatory agency correspondence. Experience in other environmental consulting practices such as Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, asbestos and hazardous materials surveys and abatement planning, industrial hygiene, environmental investigation, or environmental remediation is a bonus.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.

  • Integrate quality leadership practices into daily regimen.

  • Provide consistent quality standards on proposal and project delivery.

  • Mid-level, experienced scientific professional responsible for preparing environmental permits and associated compliance documents and provide recommendations for permit improvements on medium sized projects with a variety of complexity.

  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets that perform calculations, sometimes complex, for permit applications and Word to generate proposals, reports, and correspondence.

  • Experienced reviewing, understanding, and following federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

  • Participates with more senior scientists/engineers on large, more complex projects.

  • Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.

  • Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing and supervising field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.

  • Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for both small and large projects including quality control review of proposals written by others.

  • Evaluates complex laboratory and field data and assembles in written reports.

  • May serve as team member or lead in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.

  • May oversee work performed by lower level scientists/engineers and Technicians.

  • Works under the supervision of a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related science field and a minimum of 5 years’ related experience.Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 9 years’ related experience.

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Certification in field of expertise required.
