JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Harrisburg School of Science, Engineering, and Technology (SSET) is seeking to hire a Research faculty at either an Assistant or Associate Professor rank to assist in establishing a new and emerging field of “Nutraceutical Genomics” under the direction of the Director of the Central Pennsylvania Bio-fuels Laboratory. Using a state-of-the-art Laboratory, the faculty will focus on evaluating the efficacy of plant-derived natural products as supplements for the treatment of cancer, anxiety, depression, PTSD, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes.

This will include plant-derived secondary metabolites in combination with cannabinoids. A wide range of model systems and experimental approaches are of interest including studying the effects on solid tumors like prostate, lung, colon, and/or breast cancer. Likewise, the candidate will look at the gene expression profiling following treatment with a single/combination of product(s) to understand the mechanism of action of nutraceuticals.

The successful candidate for the position of Research Assistant/Associate Professor should have:

  • Earned Ph.D. degree in one of the disciplinary areas of Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related field.

  • E vidence of prior productive scientific work in the form of publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • prior experience in gene transcriptional regulation, bioinformatics, and the use of mouse models.

    In addition, the following would be desirable qualifications:

  • Experience in securing competitive external research grants

  • Demonstrated participation in sponsored research projects.

  • Ability to perform independent research and lead projects involving students and other colleagues.

    The research faculty responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing research plans, performing in vitro/in vivo assays with newly identified/known small molecules.

  • Determine cannabinoids and plant secondary metabolite ratios, methods for administration as well as determine therapeutic dosing ranges for various cancer treatments.

  • Perform toxicology study with anti-cancer compounds.

  • Identify the mechanism and relate it to endocannabinoids.

  • Participate in clinical trials and case studies.

  • Supervising undergraduate students.

  • Performing data analysis.

  • Developing peer-reviewed publications and presentations at scientific conferences.

  • Ensuring data integrity.

  • Develop external funding resulting in a significant portion of the researcher’s salary being covered through external grants in subsequent years.
