Wesleyan University Temporary Benefits Assistant in Middletown, Connecticut

The Human Resources Department is currently recruiting for a Temporary Benefits Assistant to work within the Benefits unit.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with administering benefit plans including: health, dental, life, FSA, HSA, EAP, COBRA and life continuation, mortgage assistance, and dependent tuition plans.

  • Assist with administrative tasks related to retirement, retiree benefits, disability, leave of absence and other benefit plans.

  • Assist employees with benefit and annual enrollment, qualifying life status events and benefit claims and issues.

  • Ensure the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.

  • Ensure benefit changes are entered appropriately in payroll system for payroll deduction, including arrears.

  • Perform quality checks of benefits-related data.

  • Assist with the annual open enrollment process.

  • Ensure benefits documents are consistently retained in DocFinity or Workday.

  • Serve as an employee advocate ensuring consistency and responsiveness.

  • Other duties as assigned.

This is an on-campus, non-benefit eligible, position working up to 32hrs per week through December 31, 2024.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two (2) years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

  • Experience working with group employee benefits including: customer service, regulation and compliance.

  • Proven record of customer service oriented approach to benefit issues/problems.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies at all levels within the university community as well as external providers.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Strong organizational skills including attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and HRIS systems.

  • Must be familiar with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid and COBRA compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a related field.

  • Experience with PeopleSoft or Workday.
