Middlebury College Nighttime Cook in Middlebury, Vermont

Join our culinary team as a Nighttime Cook! The Grille at Middlebury College seeks a positive team player to join our crew. The Nighttime Cook will prepare a variety of menu items using kitchen equipment like griddles, char broilers, fryers, and pizza ovens, following established guidelines. They'll ensure timely, high-quality meal prep, maintain sanitation standards, and serve customers with courtesy.

This is a full-time, benefit eligible hourly position with an hourly range up to $23.59/hr plus differentials for night and weekend shifts. Apply now for a taste of excitement!

Core Responsibilities:

  • Prepares a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and a variety of other kitchen equipment.

  • Leads in food production work includes cutting vegetables, meats & cheeses, some oven & toaster work

  • Knows and complies consistently with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures. Observe proper food storage and handling procedures to ensure a safe and sanitary work environment.

  • May on occasion, serve alcohol to a diverse population. Sale of such alcohol must conform to a laws set forth be the Vermont DLC. Must past certification course from DLC of Vermont

  • Observe proper food storage and handling procedures to ensure a safe and sanitary work environment. Assis in receiving and taking deliveries.

  • Ensure the highest standards in sanitary BOH procedures, fill out temp and time sheets, follow cleaning checklists, Food storage and prep areas are clean and always maintained. Following VT safety and sanitary standards revery shift.

  • May on Occasion be asked to work on POS and help cover other dining operations, be versed on basics for cash operations.

  • Always Cleaning work areas, including counters, floors, dishes, and related equipment and ensures they are in proper sanitary condition

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Safe Serve Food Service Sanitation Certificate will be administered during training period.

  • The Nighttime Cook will be expected to continue to develop his/her culinary skills though a demonstrated commitment to grow and become increasingly versatile to the unit and organization.

  • Minimum three years of experience as a cook.

  • Minimum three years of experience or training in cold food preparation, food storage and shelf life, basic kitchen work, with knowledge of food service cleanliness and sanitation standards.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Must be able to stand for up to 8 hours with a 30 minute break, as well as frequent bending and overhead reaching with twisting motions. Must be able to lift 10-20lbs numerous times during the day and up to 50lbs several times each day, must be able to push and pull up to 70lbs frequently. Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
