Middlebury College HVAC, Maintenance in Middlebury, Vermont

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Maintenance technician to join our team, responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC systems, freezers, refrigerators, and plumbing systems across campus buildings and facilities. The technician will perform preventative maintenance, maintain records of chemical usage, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Additionally, they will assist with facilities-related tasks such as snow removal, event support, and grounds maintenance.

This is a full time, benefits eligible, hourly position with a hiring range of $23.66-$29.58 per hour with great health benefits, retirement and paid time off. Check out the bottom of the ad for full benefit details.

Responsibilities:

  • HVAC Equipment Maintenance & Installation: Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of a wide range of HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, dining, and steam systems. Ensures accurate records of repairs and performs regular preventative maintenance to maximize system performance.

  • Compliance & Inventory Management: Maintains up-to-date records of chemicals used in refrigeration systems and ensures compliance with safety regulations. Manages inventory of air handler filters and belts to support continuous system operation.

  • Facility Maintenance & Daily Repairs: Performs essential maintenance and repair tasks across campus facilities, including plumbing and HVAC systems, based on daily work orders. Ensures all tasks are completed efficiently and in a timely manner.

  • General Facilities Support: Assists with a variety of facilities-related duties such as snow removal, event setup and cleanup, truck loading and unloading, and grounds maintenance, contributing to overall campus upkeep.

  • Collaboration & Safety: Works cooperatively with team members and supervisors, following all directions and safety guidelines. Ensures all duties are performed professionally and in line with Middlebury College policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Education & Technical Training: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with technical school training in refrigeration, electromechanical, and plumbing systems.

  • Experience: Candidates must have at least 2 years of relevant work experience, showcasing expertise in HVAC, refrigeration, and plumbing.

  • Certifications: EPA Type I & II Certified Refrigerant Technician certification is required or must be obtained. Preference is given to candidates who are certified propane and natural gas installers.

  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of refrigeration, electromechanical, and plumbing systems is essential. Familiarity with lockout/tag out procedures, confined space entry, and electrical safety is preferred or must be learned.

  • Driver's License & Tools: A valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and access to a personal vehicle for transporting self, tools, and materials are required. Candidates must also provide their own hand tools for plumbing and mechanical work.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must be available to work flexible shifts and overtime if necessary. Position requires frequent pulling, pushing, lifting, ladder and stair climbing, and standing on hard surfaces
