About This Position

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a Temporary, Part-Time Research Laboratory Technician. This position assists scientists in their research which includes laboratory maintenance and assistance in biological or chemical experiments.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleans, sanitizes and maintains laboratory bench space and equipment

  • Assists scientists with experiments and may perform some experiments or some parts of experiments

  • Keeps records, uses computers and computerized equipment for research, and may assist with analysis of research data

  • Maintains lab supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level while placing and expediting orders for supplies and verifying receipt of supplies

  • Processes, organizes and summarizes data. Reports experiment results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or PowerPoint applications or program platforms

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable safety regulations in conjunction with the lab, safety and regulatory offices

  • Coordinates and carries out shipments of laboratory reagents

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • One year of experience working in a scientific research setting.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who are knowledgeable in basic molecular and cellular biology, immunology and / or cancer biology.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Commitment to the University’s core values.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
