Hogan Lovells US LLP Paralegal - Litigation in Miami, Florida

This Paralegal will work in the Litigation, Arbitration, and Employment (LAE) practice group based in our Miami office to provide support to lawyers during the entire litigation process from the initial information-gathering stage through discovery and trial, and ending with careful archival of case material. Subject to the supervision of the lawyer(s) responsible for the matter, daily responsibilities include maintaining correspondence and discovery; supporting hearings, trials, and administrative proceedings, cite checking briefs, and assisting with settlements. The paralegal will play a significant role in the retrieval, review, and production of documents, both incoming and outgoing. In addition, this role will provide support for all trials and/or arbitration, working in conjunction with IT and Advanced Client Data Solutions to ensure all security requirements are followed, and best practices are consistently applied.

There is a billing requirement for this role of 1,650 hours per evaluation year.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and finalize pleadings in accordance with applicable state and Federal rules for filing with court;

  • Assist with document retrieval, review, organization, and production;

  • Maintain case pleadings, correspondence, discovery, and research for large-volume cases;

  • Cite-check and edit legal documents;

  • Maintain a database of client advisories;

  • Maintain document, transcript, and work product databases;

  • Conduct legal research and write concise memoranda to summarize results;

  • Organize and prepare exhibit lists and/or privilege logs;

  • Coordinate with the Advanced Client Data Solutions team on initial case consultation potentially monitoring preservation, collection, processing, and production of client data;

  • Coordinate work with outside document/litigation vendors, including adherence to strict deadlines;

  • Ensure all vendors engaged are in compliance with the firm's security protocol, the firm's bidding process, and the firm's conflicts and confidentiality requirements;

  • Validate data and manage systems utilizing standard operating processes, as required;

  • Maintain orderly filing and organization scheme for media;

  • Closely monitor project/case status and provide routine status reports including task completion reports and data delivery schedules;

  • Train attorneys and staff on the use of litigation support applications;

  • Assist with trial site preparation and attend trials;

  • Maintain confidentiality of client information;

    Requirements:

  • Familiarity with the following software: Relativity, Case Map, Case Notebook, Time Map, Sanction, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Nuance, Opus2, Live Note, FTP Transfer Protocol, Encryption Protocol, and all of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Access

  • Must understand written and verbal instructions

  • Attention to detail and organizational skills;

  • EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Two (2)+ years of litigation experience in a law firm or equivalent.

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Working knowledge of litigation support data applications and databases, preferably in a law firm or corporate law department setting.

  • Experience with electronic discovery support including coordination of vendor and data management for both in-house and web-based database platforms from data collection through data production is a plus.

  • Paralegal certificate desirable.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with or without direct supervision and coordinate multiple projects;

  • Client service skills, with the ability to engage with different departments to plan and problem-solve;

  • Ability to meet changin deadlines and balance competing demands;

  • Ability to assess the cost/benefit of a course of action and to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.

  • Ability to effectively present routine information in one-on-one or small group situations;
