Advanced Practice Provider

Per Diem

The Advanced Practice Provider (A PP ) d elivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The A PP also e xamines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care. The A PP will work within the family medicine service line.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide clinical care to firefighters in a mobile clinic setting onsite at various fire departments within the UHealth SCCC catchment area: Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe.

  • Perform and interpret results of occupational medicine testing (vision screening, hearing screening, EKG, pulmonary function testing, etc.).

  • Review and interpret laboratory and imaging results independently.

  • Formulate treatment plans for common family medicine health conditions including but not limited to: thyroid disorders, lipid disorders, blood glucose disorders, androgen deficiency, nutrient deficiencies, etc.

  • Utilize patient-provider joint goal setting approach p rovid ing treatment options and patient teaching regarding prevention and health promotion.

  • Review cancer screening history and order screenings per age, risk s , and FCI clinical recommendations according to increased cancer risk in firefighter population.

  • Conduct ongoing follow-up care via telemedicine to firefighters who establish care via departmental contracts.

  • Responsible for ensuring patients are contacted with urgent results or needs accordingly.

  • Collaborate with leadership on review and development of polic ies, procedures, and educational material s.

  • Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories .

  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.

  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.

  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities

  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability .

  • Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.

  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.

  • Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals .

  • Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

    CORE /DEPARTMENT QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    Master’s Degree or higher in PA services or Nursing

    Certification and Licensing:

  • Florida A PRN or PA license

  • Board certification as A PRN from nationally accredited organization such as American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Or Physician Assistant certification

  • Current Certification in BLS and ACLS

  • CITI certification within three months of employment

    Experience:

  • Preferred 2 years of experience in family medicine or internal medicine.

    Professional Development

  • COHN-s certification within one year of employment

  • Hearing conservation and spirometry certification within one year of employment

  • Participates in 360 ◦ peer review process

  • Submits annual protocols to practice site

  • Maintains national certification

  • Attend one national conference

  • Attend monthly educational grand rounds or relevant educational in-house meeting

  • Encouraged to author , present o r contribute to a professional journal article, abstract, or poster or oral presentation

    Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and efficiently, with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

  • Ability to communicate effectiv ely in both oral and written.
