Job Description:

S&P Dow Jones Indices is seeking an Associate Director, Database Engineering to be a key player in the Infrastructure Engineering team to secure AWS Cloud database environment used for running index applications in accordance with industry best practices and internal policies. This role requires a seasoned cloud database engineer who works effectively, both independently as well as collaboratively, in a team environment.

The Impact : We are looking for a technically strong Database Engineer with a hands-on approach who can bring strong technical skills, communication, and experience to a global team.

Responsibilities :

Design, Implement & support new Database solutions, ability to understand requirements, take part in design discussions and deliver solutions end-to-end. Closely interact with all team to understand the workflow and provide suggestions and solutions as and when required.

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS (required))

  • Experience with AWS Global Aurora Postgres and Global Aurora MySql.

  • Experience with cloud database monitoring & administration tools.

  • Experience in design configuration standards for RDBMS and Non-RDBMS databases.

  • Experience in developing cloud database engineering solutions for RDBMS and Non-RDBMS databases.

  • Experience in enforcing cloud database security policies and audit logging mechanisms.

  • Experience in cloud database automation provisioning, upgrades, security patches & monitoring.

  • Experience in defining cloud database backup, recovery, retention, and disaster recovery procedures.

  • Experience in providing solutions to optimize database performance and improve standards.

  • Experience in Implementing highly available & fault-tolerant solutions to withstand system failures.

  • Experience with Data Lake and Data Warehousing applications.

  • Open to work on other AWS available databases Oracle, MSSQL, DynamoDB, Redshift etc.

  • Maintain database configuration, support procedures, and runbook.

  • Manage and execute disaster recovery plans and coordinate change control process.

  • Troubleshoot Production issues and provide workarounds to restore business continuity.

  • Provision and administer RDS, Aurora, and other databases in AWS Cloud.

  • Recommend hardware and right-sizing infrastructure.

  • Hands on experience in AWS Cloud solutions using AWS RDS.

  • Automate routine Cloud DBA maintenance, patching tasks using scripting technologies.

  • Develop scripts to automate Database infrastructure provisioning.

  • Develop solutions for monitoring & alerting databases.

  • Troubleshoot cloud database performance issues and failures.

  • Design solutions to migrate data across different databases.

  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis and provide effective cloud database solutions.

  • Implement cloud database engineering best practices and controls.

  • Provide guidance to developers to design complex cloud database solutions.

  • Suggest improvements to current processes, tools and implementation ideas.

  • Evaluate new cloud database AWS services and solutions.

  • Knowledge of design data sharding, partitioning, and BigData solutions (EMR and EMR serverless)

  • Knowledge of servers, virtualization systems, storage, and network engineering.

  • Enforce cloud database security policies and audit logging mechanisms.

  • Experience on tool like Jenkins, Datadog, OEM etc.

Qualifications :

  • Around 11+ years of experience in handling multi-database environment on AWS and on premise.

  • English Advanced conversation and written skills.

  • AWS Certifications preferred.

  • Knowledge on No SQL database and understanding of Python.

  • Good to have experience in database activity stream (DAS).

  • Good to know MSK/OpenSearch.

  • Experience in the financial services sector preferred but not required.

  • At least bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent. MS in Computer Science is preferred.

  • Candidates without Computer Science or Information Technology degree should have significant work experience.
