Incumbent provides first level supervision, planning, and direction for a group of nonsupervisory workers engaged in the operations, maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, preservation, and project management oversight of heavily utilized roads, tunnels, bridges, and trails. The incumbent of this position will work directly under the Chief of Maintenance. The Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor provides leadership within the Roads and Trails Branch of the Facility Management at Mesa Verde National Park and is directly supervised by the Chief of Facility Management The incumbent oversees all operational, maintenance and construction activities associated with the parks roads asset portfolio that includes approximately 75 miles of paved and unpaved roads, 25 Miles of trails and over 400 signs dispersed throughout the park. The incumbent is responsible for all administrative needs and planning of day-to-day and long-term work for a diverse trade staff comprised of a: WL-09 Engineering Equipment Operator Work Leader, two WG-10 Engineering Equipment Operators, one WG-09 Equipment Mechanic, WG-07 Trails Worker and a WG-04 Laborer. Incumbent serves as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on government construction and service contracts and as Agreement Technical Representative (ATR) on task agreements. Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is required climbing in and out of different machines, pushing and pulling levers continuously while machine is in operation and lifting such items as opening and closing tail gates on dump trucks. Work is strenuous because of the large equipment operated, the frequent adjustments made and the adverse operating conditions. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibrations of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Working Conditions: Outdoor temperatures range from -10° F to 100° F. Although much of the weather is fair and mild, summer conditions include hot windy weather with dirt, dust, noise and potential hazards in the form of rock and mudslides due to rain. Winter conditions include rain, snow, whiteouts, and blizzards. Will perform all duties at elevations from 6000 to 8500 feet above sea level. The incumbent will be working both in and out of doors. Working indoors requires sitting at a desk for long periods of time and/or attending meetings. Park Information: Located in Southwest Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park was established in 1906 to preserve and interpret the archaeological heritage of the Ancestral Pueblo people. For over 700 years, the Ancestral Pueblo people built thriving communities on the mesas and in the cliffs of Mesa Verde. Today, the park protects the rich cultural heritage of 26 Pueblos and Tribes and offers visitors a spectacular window into the past while also highlighting contemporary connections. This World Heritage Site and International Dark Sky Park is home to over a thousand species, including several that live nowhere else on earth. Nearby Yucca House National Monument is managed under Mesa Verde. It is an undeveloped NPS unit and protects a large unexcavated valley pueblo. On average Mesa Verde hosts 500,000+ visitors per year. Area residents and visitors enjoy world-class outdoor recreational opportunities including skiing, mountain biking, hiking, rafting, camping, hunting, and fishing in the region. Nearby public lands include the San Juan National Forest, Canyon of the Ancients National Monument and other areas in the Tres Rios District of the Bureau of Land Management. The local towns of Cortez, Mancos, Dolores, and Durango provide a range of housing, dining, and shopping opportunities, and both Durango and Cortez have regional airports. Mesa Verde and the nearby communities are great places to work and live. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You must possess and maintain a current Class A Commercial Driver's License. You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home on an occasional basis. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. You will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 on an annual basis. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
