The opportunity
Delaware North Parks and Resorts is hiring a full-time General Plant HVAC Technician to join our team at Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida. As a General Plant HVAC Technician, you will perform, installations, maintenance and repairs on facilities and equipment. Special knowledge and capabilities required for installations, maintenance, and repairs facility heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and equipment. General knowledge of multiple disciplines including building construction, carpentry, roofing, drywall, carpeting/tiling, masonry, painting, gas appliances, electrical and plumbing is required. Position may require working nights, weekends and holidays.

$24.69 - $24.69 / hour

What will you do?

Must meet deadlines.
Perform any range of installation, preventive and repair maintenance.
Perform tasks to diagnose malfunctions using laptop computer, electrical and electronic test meters, test meters, recorders to determine extent of repairs required, and perform any range of required repairs including replacement or repair of building equipment, major food service equipment, electrical components, controls and similar components.
Perform a range of electrical, mechanical and electronic checks, repairs, and installations.
Perform preventive maintenance routines, including inspections, cleaning, adjusting elements such as belts and pulleys.
Perform maintenance operations for construction, painting and carpentry operations to build or repair facilities as directed. Assist in installation or replacement of floor or ceiling tiles, doors, drywall and similar items and erection of temporary buildings, walkways, and similar facilities.
Securing of loose molding, base and trim, perform roof repairs, checking proper mechanical operation of doors and similar units, inspection of roofs, floors and walls as directed.
Requires the use of sharp tools, hand and hand power tools, drill, router, sawzall, multi-tool oscillating planer, miter, chop, table, band, jog saw and others.
Requires the use of machine tools, plumbing tools, generators, forklifts, man lifts, pallet jack, hydraulic lift, pumps and similar devices.
Sets up and works from ladders or use man lift to perform tasks above ground level.
Maintains tools, equipment and supplies in good, clean, operating order.
Maintains a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment in a clean and orderly condition.
Follow safety rules and wear appropriate safety PPE, such as respirator, hearing protection and safety glasses/face shield or goggles.
Attend all company training. Complete all assigned online training on time.
Properly label and disposal of refrigerant, cylinders and appliances and correctly maintain required records.
Individuals generate hazardous or controlled waste during regular job activities and are responsible for ensuring that hazardous or controlled waste is properly managed in accordance with all applicable NASA, state, and federal requirements and regulations. Although it is not a routine part of this job, individuals may be responsible for labeling and inspecting waste accumulation containers. This position requires site specific waste management training including initial RCRA hazardous waste management training within six months of assignment. Individuals will also be required to attend annual refresher training to meet the requirements of 40 CFR 265.16.

Must be at least 21 years old to apply.
High school diploma or equivalent experience with completion of trade school or a certified apprenticeship program
Requires minimum of five (5) years of verifiable HVAC experience. An extensive background/experience in control systems, chiller systems and in electrical field equipment to a complete accredited apprenticeship program. Some additional experience in other disciplines is required.
Requires Microsoft Office and associated software.
Requires a valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Ability to obtain and maintain a NASA badge.
Required: Universal Refrigeration Certification.
Desired but not required: electrical journeyman’s license, certified public pool service technician, EPA refrigerant technician.
Drive company vehicles around property.
Physical requirements
Requires regularly working several feet above the ground on ladders, scaffolds, or high lift.
Requires reading and interpretation of written information including various codes and blueprints.
Requires the physical equivalent of exerting effort or lifting and carrying or manipulating of materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Requires bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing, stooping, pushing, pulling, and reaching. Requires mental and visual attention to work along with manual dexterity for sustained periods of time.
Requires working indoors and outdoors in the presence of heat, dirt, dust, noise, fumes, wetness, paint, and solvents.
