Through our ES Portfolio Technology Strategy, FAST Labs stays strongly aligned with the advanced technology needs of our business area product portfolios. It is our role to capture and execute research & development programs that deliver advanced technologies and capabilities for our customers, both external and internal. Transitioning our technologies and capabilities into ES products or adjacencies is a prime objective for our team as we seek to use our innovation to drive impact for our customers.

The main responsibility of the VP/GM of FAST Labs is overseeing the operation of the business. This will include managing some of the day to day operational aspects of the business, participating or leading the business rhythm elements of FAST Labs, and meeting with key internal and external customers. Other responsibilities will involve functional reviews, bid and proposal reviews, program reviews, and participation as a key member of the Electronics Systems Sector Leadership Team. Specific job responsibilities include the following:

Lead FAST Labs by:

  • Modeling behavior aligned with our BAE Systems Cultural Principles and FAST Labs Guiding Principles.

  • Accomplishing the mission and strategy as set forth in the FAST Labs business plan and ES Technology Strategy.

  • Direct and plan business operations for delivery of financial salients.

  • Plan business development activities for continued technology transitions and growth commitments.

  • Spearhead strategic initiatives for the business area, including driving the ES Microelectronics charter and vision, ES Mission Assessments charter and vision, and the next instantiation of the ES Portfolio Technology Strategy vision and release

  • Other responsibilities include:

  • Work with the leadership team to actively manage the most valuable resource we have within the organization: our human capital, to include activities related to recruiting top talent, employee development, employee sponsorship/mentorship, employee engagement and succession planning within the group.

  • Cultivate a high-performance culture that inspires teamwork and personal excellence in alignment with the BAE Systems behaviors and cultural values.

  • Oversee, direct and plan activities associated with Operational Framework requirements (OAS, IBP, QBR s, Phase Reviews, CSR s, LCM).

  • Maintaining Customer Satisfaction, developing deep relationships with major customers and partners

  • Engage direct and indirect reports, maintain responsibility for budget and expense planning.

Because this role involves a combination collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format. his resource will sit in Merrimack, NH at the headquarters of FAST Labs.

The VP/GM candidate shall have demonstrated or obtained the following education, experience and skills:

  • Proven ability to lead a diverse organization across multiple geographic business sites.

  • Capability to lead a large organization through complex culture change.

  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or business administration.

  • 15 years of portfolio management experience

  • Ability to think strategically and formulate strategic vision, strategies, and implement actions to achieve goals in a changing environment.

  • Business and technical leadership, management, and decision making focused on Research & Development, or microelectronics development & production.

  • Strong customer focus and demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships with internal business area customers, as well as external commercial and defense ecosystem partners.

  • Business development mindset with in-depth experience in the development of growth strategies within the R&D ecosystem.

  • Proven ability to share and transfer technology and know-how across organizational boundaries.

  • Competent in talent management and development, performance management, mentoring, coaching, and team communications.

  • Ability to achieve results through others. Demonstrated ability to develop leaders in an organization

  • Eligible for US Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree with 15 years of experience

  • Strong business acumen and presence at the leadership level

  • Problem Solving: Requires use of conceptual and innovative thinking

  • Nature of Impact: Defines professional/technical direction and strategy.

  • Area of Impact: Primarily at the Business Area level, but will extend to specific programs.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Skilled communicator who influences and shapes the behavior and performance of a complex Program/Business Unit/Sector

  • Negotiation Skills: Negotiates internally and externally at high levels or with persons of influence frequently

  • Project Management: Project Manager on highly complex initiatives or Program Manager on large, complex programs ($100M in revenue) responsible for all aspects of project/program.

  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills with the ability to achieve results through others. Experience identifying talent opportunities and gaps, along with appropriate development actions.

  • Ability to make key decisions, gain organizational buy-in, and implement actions timely and effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully support an organization using change management skills.

  • Foster innovative problem solving, performance excellence, and continuous improvement to deliver affordable, effective, and dependable solutions.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Ph.D. degree with 11 years of experience or Master's degree with 13 years of experience

  • Experience with and understanding of functional matrix organizations

  • Experience leading research organizations

  • Experience leading transition type programs

  • Experience with organizational development activity (employee development, management development, succession planning)
