Dignity Health Security Officer Lead in Merced, California

Responsibilities

Assist with the functions of physical and personal security and safety measures of members patients staff and visitors/guests. Protects staff and property from theft or damage or persons from hazards or interference including the potential for violence in the workplace. Primary functions include responding to emergency situations at the assigned healthcare facility. Makes periodic tours to check for irregularities and to inspect protection devices and fire control equipment. Preserves orders and may enforce regulations pertaining to personnel visitors/guests and premises. Provides lead direction to Security Officers while on shift and performs other duties of a more responsible and demanding level as defined by Dignity Health Security Department. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Dignity Health. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Dignity Health's Core Value and humankindness. The employee shall support Dignity Health's strategic plans and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities.

  • Informs the Director of Security/Manager regarding ANY circumstances or situations that have or may have serious impact on the hospital.

  • Supports and adheres to Security Department policies and procedure guidelines.

  • Serves as Officer-In-Charge of the scheduled shift when requested by Supervisor/Manager.

  • Maintains current knowledge of new methods, products, trends, and practices in hospital security and emergency management.

  • Patrols the facility or stands at fixed post as required. Special instructions are followed when received.

  • Reports un-safe acts or conditions to the Lead Officer in a timely manner.

  • Escorts suspicious persons without lawful business from the property.

  • Recognizes an escalation/de-escalation of force situation when confronted with the threat or initiation of force and make the correct decisions without direct supervision.

  • Responds to calls for assistance in a timely and prudent manner using due regard and exercising Safety Protocols at all times. Assistance calls include, but are not limited to: control of violent or unruly patients and visitors, crimes committed on hospital property.

  • Assists employees, visitors/guests, and medical staff when a need exists to call the police.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Six (6) months experience as a Security Officer involving extensive public contact.

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Current Driver's License issued by the State wherein the position is posted with satisfactory DMV report on file or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

  • Current State issued Security Officer License if applicable showing no disciplinary actions.

  • Completion of IAHSS Basic Training for Healthcare Security Officer within 90 days of hire

  • CPR training within 60 days of hire

  • Workplace Violence training annually

Special Skills:

  • Must be able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

  • Must be able to speak English.

  • Performs the duties of a Security Officer in accordance with post orders and Dignity Health company policy.

  • Provides lead direction at assigned site(s) on assigned shift(s); acts to ensure that post orders are followed that established rounds are completed and that adequate reports are filed; notifies proper authorities and leadership emergency situations.

  • Assists in the training of Security Officers and review of post orders.

  • In conjunction with leadership acts to ensure adequate security coverage of all posts.

  • Prepares daily DARs and sends to the Dignity Health Security Director/Manager.

  • Proper handling of incidents detrimental to the security and safety of the facility patients and employees.

  • Carries out specific tasks and duties as required and assigned.

  • Meets annual clinical/employee health screening requirements.

Preferred:

  • One (1) year experience as a Security Officer in a hospital or healthcare setting prior law enforcement or military service.

  • Completion of college level education courses in criminal justice preferred.

Pay Range

$23.47 - $32.27 /hour
