Job Description

This role will partner with R&D to ensure that quality requirements are engineered into the Product design. This role will lead quality improvements with our suppliers, in order to improve efficiencies and to reduce supplier related claims at our Customers. This role will partner with our manufacturing sites and our procurement team to resolve internal and external supplier related issues. This role will establish and implement Divisional standards around how we partner with direct and indirect suppliers. The role will be continuous improvement focused, which involves the improvement of processes utilizing and enhancing IT solutions. The role will play a key part in delivering our Quality and Loss objectives across sites and Division. The role reports to our Divisional Quality Manager - Continuous Improvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with our procurement team, R&D team, marketing team, DIV quality team and our manufacturing sites to establish raw material quality requirements, improve supplier quality, product quality and our quality management system through continuous improvement efforts.

  • Train, develop and partner with our suppliers to improve their product quality and responsiveness.

  • Develop, lead and enhance our supplier quality audit and post audit processes. They will assemble, train and lead the audit teams.

  • Partner with the procurement, operations and R&D teams to select and qualify new suppliers.

  • Establish new and improve existing raw material specifications to reduce waste and prevent customer claims.

  • Establish and implement standards associated with supplier specifications, supplier claims and corrective action processes.

  • Implement and enhance processes around intercompany quality to reduce waste, reduce losses and prevent Customer claims.

  • Train suppliers on our supplier claim and corrective action processes.

  • Audit supplier corrective actions and coach suppliers to improve their problem solving and corrective action processes.

  • Maintain data and report out on supplier performance, including the impact of supplier quality on internal metrics and customer claims.

  • Develop processes to improve the speed and effectiveness of our raw material specification processes.

  • Work autonomously to independently determine and develop an approach to solutions.

  • Propose, design, prioritize, conduct and oversee multiple projects. Establish project goals and deliverables, track progress, and validate project impact.

  • Create and maintain a 5-year project roadmap and digital roadmap for your area of responsibility. Periodically present and gain alignment on roadmap priorities.

  • Develop training content and lead the training of engineering and quality teams. Lead knowledge transfer.

  • Write project plans, determine timeline and resources needed.

  • Independently lead cross-functional problem solving efforts.

  • Complete data analysis to get to root cause and to identify priority projects.

  • Build, implement and enhance ISO procedures, work instructions and documents.

  • Work cross-functionally to adapt processes and procedures, and IT systems in reaction to internally and externally driven changes. Ensure continued compliance with standards while minimizing negative impact to efficiency and effectiveness of business processes.

  • Use statistical tools and complete capability studies.

  • Lead customer claim reduction (claim $ and claim count reduction) efforts.

  • Complete lot trace activities to support claim investigations as needed.

  • Lead the organization through both internal and external assessments (audits); provide on-site audit support.

  • Serve as a Lead auditor for ISO, FSC, and complete two audits per year if needed.

  • Provide back up support and vacation coverage for DIV Quality Engineers and DIV Quality Manager roles. This will include completing specification approvals, specification updates, leading product quality alert activities, and leading complex claims.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering

  • Minimum 6 years of manufacturing experience

  • Expert level knowledge in supplier quality and supplier audit processes.

  • Demonstrated experience with SPC, DOE, PMAP, FMEA, Control Plans and MSA/MSE. Demonstrated experience using SPC to improve quality and prevent waste.

  • Minimum 4 years experience working in an ISO9001 quality environment, or similar registered quality environment

  • This position is classified as Hybrid with a minimum of 3 days/week in the headquarters office in Mentor, Ohio (B22), unless you are traveling for work

  • This individual will travel up to 30% to manufacturing sites, suppliers, and Customers, all travel in North America

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to build strong and balanced relationships

  • Proven track record of effectively communicating within a wide range of organizational levels

  • Significant understanding of formal management systems and international standards combined with practical hands-on experience

  • Experience implementing procedures, processes, programs, and practices under formal “management systems” like ISO 9001 (or a similar quality, environmental, or safety management systems) to ensure continuous improvement and continued conformance with relevant standards

  • Strong leadership skills. Ability to lead, contribute, and influence others in a team-based organization

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills acting both independently and within a team environment
