Meta Messaging Policy Manager, Privacy & Data Policy in Menlo Park, California

Summary:

Meta is seeking a strategic thinker and action-oriented policy professional to join our Privacy & Data Policy Product Strategy team as a Messaging Policy Manager. You will work on issues related to Meta’s private messaging services - WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram Direct - and Meta's missions of giving people the power to build community, bringing the world closer together, and communicating privately and securely. In this role, you will be responsible for helping develop our strategy and advising product teams on the hardest privacy and data use questions we face in the messaging space; engaging with civil society, policymakers, and other stakeholders to build understanding and support for our approaches and product objectives; and collaborating with colleagues across the business and the globe to do so. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in technology, public policy, and privacy and data issues; be skilled at working cross-functionally and cross-regionally; and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-intensity, and constantly changing environment.The successful applicant will become part of a team that is dealing with some of the most interesting technology policy challenges of our times for the world’s largest private messaging services.

Required Skills:

Messaging Policy Manager, Privacy & Data Policy Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and execute policy strategies for issues of importance to Meta’s private messaging services, including on issues related to privacy, data protection, and end-to-end encryption

  2. Work cross-functionally with central and regional Policy teams, as well as Product, Legal, Communications, and Partnership teams, to build and drive policies that support the company's goals with respect to private messaging

  3. Engage with civil society, policymakers, and other stakeholders to build understanding and support for our approaches and product objectives for messaging, and work with global teams to enable them to do so

  4. Advise Product teams within WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram Direct on privacy, data protection, encryption, and other product policy issues

  5. Support the development of policy narratives around key issues, including privacy, data protection, and encryption, and that demonstrate the value of Meta’s messaging products and policy approaches

  6. Support the operation of the high-performing, cross-functional, global policy team focused on messaging, including by helping develop strategic planning documents, leadership updates, and other materials

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 6+ years of relevant work experience in public policy, government, or legal fields

  2. Bachelor’s degree in policy, international affairs, or other related field

  3. Experience advising teams and executives/officials on policy matters, working cross-functionally and on complex projects, and developing and executing policy strategies

  4. Experience producing policy briefs and other advocacy and/or analytical documents for internal and external stakeholders

  1. Master's or Juris Doctorate degree

  2. Experience in technology policy and understanding of internet technologies

  3. Experience with data protection and privacy issues

  4. Experience in product counseling policy and/or product work for a technology company, multinational corporation, and/or government

  5. Experience conducting external advocacy and engagement

Public Compensation:

$119,000/year to $177,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
