Description

Job Summary

ANS is seeking aSwitch Technician, who will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the cabled devices present at the client or customer network site. The essential duties of this position ensure the smooth functioning of the telephone network. Responsibilities include the rapid installation, process, and maintenance of switching, data exchange, and peripheral equipment associated with the Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO) standards.

Responsibilities

  • Familiar with Central Office / MSC circuit identifications.

  • Trouble shooting skills and be familiar with all aspects of the CO / MSC (HDFB, DCS, Fiber testing, some equipment specific experience with Cisco 6500, 5508, Milky Way, etc.)

  • Test installed telecom systems to discover and repair transmission faults

  • Repair or swap out defective and damaged devices, cabling, and all related switching hardware

  • Test and troubleshoot individual trunk lines and systems and devices

  • Deploy analog and digital switching hardware, install and test telecom switching center circuits and equipment

  • Assist repair workers in testing lines and circuits

  • Employ existing testing systems to test and service client telecommunication lines and equipment.

  • Localize and repair the cause, nature, and location of client service issues

  • Ability to follow all safety standards required at the job site, including use of hand and power tools.

  • Ability to follow directions and quality standards.

  • Valid Driver's License with clean driving record.

  • High School Diploma or GED

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

The employee must be able and willing to travel locally to reach customer and network locations or local events and regularly work in outdoor weather conditions. Compliance with all Company safety procedures is a requirement.

  • The employee is regularly required to communicate with customers and co-workers in a clear and straight forward manner.

  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and will be standing during most of the day. The employee will frequently service network equipment and position self to access network equipment in small remote cabinets, vaults, and buildings with limited space to work. Additionally, work may be performed near power lines, electricity, gas lines, and other utility lines.

  • The employee must regularly carry, move, push, pull, install, and/or remove tools and equipment weighing 20 to 50 pounds (and frequently 50 to 100 pounds).

  • The employee must be physically able to safely operate a variety of machinery and equipment including shovels, rakes, sledgehammers, pickaxes, excavators, plows, trenchers, company vehicles, and other telecommunications or construction equipment.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision (specifically the ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires), peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

  • The employee must occasionally be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time and operate a computer and other office equipment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a Full-Time Non-Exempt position. Days and hours of work are Generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, with as needed support on weekends for emergency response. An appropriate level of communication about expected hours of work between the employee and supervisor will be agreed to as part of the discussion process and will be more formal during the trial period. With on call duties as assigned relating to ANS Advanced Network Services user issues after hours’, weekends, and holidays.
