Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Materials & Processes Engineer. The Sr. Principal Materials & Processes Engineer (M&P) will be responsible for leading all non-metallic efforts on a classified program.

  • Examples include addressing issues with sealants, coatings, and subsystems. Will oversee and participate in the generation of test plans and reports.

  • Will review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures and may be asked to travel to subcontractor locations to address M&P issues.

  • Performs root cause analysis of material failures and provides effective solutions to production issues.

  • Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.

  • Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes.

  • Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 9 years of experience to include a background in composites for airframe structures.

  • Experience with metallic fabrication and design on aircraft

  • Experience with repair processes for metallic materials used in aerospace structures

  • Higher technical level may be considered based on candidate’s experience.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Materials Science or similar

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment

  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously

  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions

  • Experience with military specs and standards

  • Experience interfacing with a military customer

Salary Range: $104,400 - $156,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
