Here at Collins Aerospace on our Traffic Surveillance team we create the software and systems design s used as an integral piece of a cohesive system to provide c ritical situational awareness and alerting to our pilots. We have an opportunity for a skilled Principal Software Engineer who is has the experience in planning, designing, and executing verification testing across a range of software products including embedded software, applications, and integrated systems. Knowledge of industry standards such as DO-1787C and DO-330 is essential, with proficiency in C#, C++, C, and Python preferred.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Develop, maintain , and execute verification tests across a spectrum of software products, encompassing embedded software, applications, and integrated systems.

  • Develop, maintain , and manage test tools and multiple test bed environments to bolster verification efforts.

  • Conduct analysis of system and software requirements to determine the feasibility of verification and validation within defined time and budgetary constraints.

  • Support verification testing processes, facilitate the transition to production, and assist in resolving field-related issues.

  • Design, analyze, integrate, test, and document software test cases tailored for systems or subsystems verification purposes.

  • Offer technical leadership, contributing to concept development and engaging in peer reviews and design evaluations.

  • Provide guidance on ensuring adherence to processes and customize methodologies to align with project-specific requirements.

  • Cultivate a collaborative environment among developers and Product Owners, fostering effective communication and alignment throughout projects.

  • Uphold and advocate for the organization's mission, values, and culture, reinforcing a positive and productive work environment

  • P roduce engineering estimates of individual tasks and may contribute to Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) and Bid proposals.

    QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in the Avionics/Aerospace field, specifically in embedded software development.

  • Experience with application lifecycle management tools/platforms such as Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, Git or similar tools (DEVOPS experience).

  • Experience developing software and tools in C # , C++ , C, and Python .

  • Experience in all phases of product development (full life cycle) in Software Engineering programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.

  • Experience working with teams across multi-geographical locations and multiple disciplines.

  • Use data-driven quantitative analysis, including statistical tools, data modeling, and trend analysis, to inform decision-making. Identify patterns, predict outcomes, and select optimal solutions based on empirical evidence and logical reasoning.

  • Experience in DO-1787B/C and DO-330 processes (or similar safety-critical software development guidelines) is preferred.

  • Understanding of safety-critical systems and verification requirements .

  • Experience/knowledge with Agile development.

  • Experience with networking protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP

  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing methodologies.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
