Health First HFMG Surgical Tech - Cancer Center Gynecology Oncology in Melbourne, Florida

*POSITION SUMMARY: * To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by: performing a variety of technical activities related to patient care, as well as support activities in the operating room under the direction of the R.N. Technical activities may include performing in a scrub role in surgery within the defined Surgical Technologist scope of care. Support activities may include those necessary to the functioning of the Surgical Department, assisting with the technical component defined in the patient care plan, with care directed and managed by an R.N.

*PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES: * Quality/No Harm: • Prepares and organizes supplies and materials for the special needs of the patient, surgical procedure, and surgeon's preference in a cost effective manner. • Assists in accounting for all sponges, sharps and instruments during an operative procedure according to hospital policy. • Checks O.R. suite to ensure a clean environment. Assists with cleaning during room turnover and terminal cleaning as necessary. Cleans and restocks O.R. rooms daily. • Demonstrates competency in opening sterile supplies and setting up for procedure in a cost effective manner. (Carries out principles of aseptic technique) • Anticipates needs of surgeons and assistants in preparing and passing instruments, sponge, sharps and instrument counts and supplies needed for operative procedure. • Properly handles and cares for all instruments and equipment checks for proper function and completeness. Reports faulty equipment per policy. Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to changes in duty assignments. • Participates in a performance improvement activity to improve department, patient or physician satisfaction . • Displays a positive image and demonstrates a concern of patients, visitors, associates and physicians. • Participates in recording patient data on OR record. (signs OR paper record during computer down times) • Assist with preceptoring new technical personnel. • Follows infection control policy, utilizes personal protection devices as indicated in the universal precautions policy. • Uses computer system effectively as needed for daily activities, such as printing physicians preference cards and accessing surgery schedule. • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows current policies and procedures. • Maintains professional relations and communicates effectively with physicians, vendor representatives, staff members, nursing management, and staff from other hospital departments. Customer Experience: • Attend in services, inventory and mandatory meetings. • Shares responsibility of call coverage for the operating room. • Completes annual mandatory requirements prior to evaluation. • Demonstrates knowledge of AORN standards (to be measures by written test on AORN standards. • Accurately handles and identifies specimens properly; demonstrates care of specimen as required. • Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHPs scores for department/medical center and/or written compliments by patients/others as well as consistent performance of purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report. • Knowledge of all equipment necessary for functioning in various O.R. suites. Stewardship: • Provides optimal patient care services within limits defined by major responsibilities • Interacts effectively with members of the medical staff Management • Maintains a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all members of the patient care team • Responds to others both interdepartmentally/intradepartmental in a helpful manner, especially in times of increased patient activity or short staff situations. • Courteous rapport with doctor's office personnel • Maintains professional working relationships and effective communication with outside vendors.

*QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: * • High School Diploma or equivalent required • 3-5 years’ experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred • Certification preferred. Graduate program for Surgical Technologist (Military, Community • College or School for Surgical Technologist). • Must hold current AHA/CPR Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.

*PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * • Exposure to bio hazardous waste, substances and unknown diseases • Vision and hearing to normal range • Sitting and standing for extensive periods of time • Frequent lifting, pulling, reaching and carrying of light to heavy patients and/or objects • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted up to 33% of the assigned shift.
