Actalent Electrical Test Engineer in Melbourne, Florida

Job Title: Electrical Test Engineer

Location: Melbourne, FL

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Test Engineer with experience in electrical motors and low voltage systems.

This role involves both lab work (75%) and outdoor/on-water testing (25%) of boat engines/motors.

The Electrical Test Engineer will be heavily involved in new product development and prototyping of electric motors for the boating industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-water testing using tools such as Duosoft, GPS, and inertial-based tools to measure sound and g-forces.

  • Perform thrust measurements using a load cell.

  • Utilize amps, multimeters, oscilloscopes, thermocouples, and strain gauges for testing and diagnostics.

  • Execute testing and research in the marine industry, focusing on product quality, cost, and timely deliverables.

  • Understand and design boat electrical systems, including wiring harnesses and electrical components.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and knowledge of propulsion systems integration.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematic diagrams.

  • Apply knowledge of grounding and galvanic protection requirements for AC and DC electrical systems.

  • Understand battery and charging system requirements for DC electrical systems.

  • Troubleshoot AC/DC electrical circuits, components, and systems to ensure proper operation.

  • Collaborate with vendors to develop electrical systems and components, ensuring continuous improvement and quality.

Qualifications (Must have):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Mechanical Engineering (BSME).

  • 1-3 years of professional experience, relevant co-op or internship experience will be considered.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical motors, batteries, and electric propulsion.

  • Relevant industry experience in automotive, electric motors, power equipment, motorcycles, recreational sports vehicles, scooters, batteries, and related products.

  • Strong interest in the marine/boating industry. You will spend time out on the water in a boat testing products hands-on!

Preferred Skills :

  • Clear understanding of boat electrical systems, design, and functionality.

  • Ability to provide requirements and component specifications for wiring harnesses and electrical systems.

  • Knowledge of propulsion systems and their integration into boat systems.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and ensure proper operation of AC/DC electrical circuits and systems.

  • Experience working with vendors for the development of electrical systems and components.

  • Experience with amps, multimeters, oscilloscopes, thermocouples, and strain gauges.
