Amazon System Engineer (Security), AWS Security in Melbourne, Australia

Are you a technology enthusiast and interested in delivering critical services at AWS? We have an opportunity for a System Engineer in the AWS Security organization, and are looking for a technical contributor who is ready to transform AWS’ capability in delivery security services.

Key job responsibilities

  • Be a technical contributor for your team.

  • Look for opportunites to automate and scale using tooling and scripting.

  • Work efficiently and routinely deliver the right things with limited guidance.

  • Focus on ambiguous problem areas in existing or new development initiatives.

  • Take a long term view of your team’s systems and how they fit into the architecture.

  • Proactively fix operational deficiencies and/or propose projects that have significant business and/or customer impact, which may require the work of your team.

  • Be an exceptional diagnostician when resolving operational or performance issues encountered in your team’s systems.

Hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance (see https://www.agsva.gov.au/applicants/eligibility-and-suitability)

A day in the life

  • Understand the business impact of your systems and show good judgment when making technical trade-offs between your team’s short-term technology or operational needs and long-term business needs.

  • Contribute in mindful discussions with customers and peers.

  • Bring perspective and provide context for current technology choices and guide future technology choices.

  • Collaborating with the security team to determine automation needs and deliver to this needs.

  • Evaluate existing tooling and scripting for effectivenes and seek opportunties to ehance.

The team is comprised of security professionals with a cross section of national security and private sector experience, providing a range of perspectives required for creative problem solving. Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust

  • Experience with Linux/Unix

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed systems at scale
