AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) in ANZ is responsible for driving revenue, adoption, and growth from the largest and fastest growing small and mid-market accounts to enterprise-level customers. The ANZ Specialist team partners with our field sales and solution architect teams to support our customers that are building mission-critical applications on top of AWS services.

Are you a sustainability and data expert looking to create a legacy to accelerate customers decarbonisation outcomes through leveraging AWS technologies like machine learning and AI?

The ANZ Specialist team are seeking an experienced Sustainability and Data Business Development (BD) specialist to accelerate our customers adoption of technology to meet their ESG reporting requirements and net-zero ambitions.

Do you have the business background, technology experience, and superior communication skills needed to help our customers uncover how they can build on AWS to deliver their decarbonisation outcomes? We are looking for an adaptable, dynamic and creative business developer with sustainability credentials to help our existing and new customers to build a sustainable business on AWS.

As the aligned specialist for the AWS Sustainability Acceleration (SA) Program, you will help customers understand the art of the possible to inspire and transform their business and operating models focusing on sustainability.

As an experienced business developer, you will lead the development and execution of a go-to-market plan and sales play in concert with our Migration Acceleration and Innovation programs and AWS sustainability partners. With an entrepreneurial mindset, the ability to influence a diverse set of stakeholders internally and externally your responsibilities will include finding and managing strategic partners, curating and speaking at events as the AWS sustainability SME, and building business and technical relationships with customers to create significant new ad strategic opportunity pipelines.

You will enable the AWS Sales teams to creatively accelerate their sustainability opportunities with key prospects. You will work with AWS and partner Solutions Architects, Specialists and Professional Services teams to develop and promote a sustainability lens and best-practices, and launch customer POC's and programs. You will work with the AWS product and services teams to help evolve AWS solutions and guidance to help customers achieve their net-zero targets faster while addressing issues, concerns, and requests from the field.

Your experience in and passion for sustainability will enable you to identify a broad spectrum of use cases where AWS can add value to our customers. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to think creatively, strategically and long-term about the sustainability outcomes businesses are striving to achieve including; transitioning to sustainable business models, sustainable supply chains, reducing the environmental impact of their operations, accurate ESG reporting, and the energy transition. A keen sense of ownership, drive, and bias for action to enable our customers is a must.

Key job responsibilities

  • Build the pipeline of strategic sustainability-themed opportunities by engaging with prospects, partners, and existing customers to accelerate, qualify and close large scale migration and modernization opportunities that accelerate our customers decarbonisation objectives. Meet monthly, quarterly and yearly goals set for ANZ sales teams for sustainability pipeline and launched revenue;

  • Develop specific messaging and collateral that communicates the AWS and relevant Pan Amazon sustainability value proposition .

  • Develop and execute sustainability-focused campaigns including speaking at events with partners. working closely with internal teams and stakeholders including sales, solution architecture, cloud economics, marketing, & partner teams, professional services, support teams, legal & contract teams, and the Worldwide Amazon sustainability team;

  • Understand the unique sustainability-related business & technical requirements of customers and work closely with the internal specialist cloud services teams to guide direction on our sustainable product offerings for our customers ;

  • Prepare and present sustainability business reviews to the senior management team, highlighting progress and roadblocks to growth for sustainability opportunities.

*Travel to customer locations as needed around Australia (estimated 25%) most of which is Australian East Coast.

A day in the life

Start the day with a series of art-of-the-possible meetings with customer account managers and solution architects focused on large, strategic customer accounts and deals. Discuss opportunities for these customers to transform their businesses, applications and infrastructure in a more sustainable way by leveraging AWS cloud services. Dive deep into the technical and business requirements, exploring how AWS can help support net-zero aspirations of our customers. Engage with the supporting AWS service specialist teams, cloud economics experts, and partner teams to fine-tune the sustainability-focused proposals and investment strategies as well as POC's for these key customers. Collaborate closely to ensure the solutions being proposed align with the customers' decarbonisation and net-zero goals and objectives. Attend an event and speak as our sustainability SME. Gather updates on the sustainability-driven pipeline and emerging customer trends, and share these insights with the broader team and key stakeholders. Celebrate the team's progress and successes in a hybrid work environment that fosters collaboration and innovation around sustainability initiatives.

The role requires adaptability, creativity, and a deep understanding of the unique sustainability challenges and opportunities faced by customers in Australia and New Zealand. By working closely with cross-functional teams and building strong relationships with customers, the Sustainability Business Development Lead plays a crucial role in accelerating the adoption of cloud technology (e.g., data, AI, and machine learning) to pinpoint and accelerate decarbonisation outcomes.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience

  • 6+ years of professional or military experience

  • Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level

  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Experience influencing internal and external stakeholders

  • Experience curating and developing significant and scalable customer pipelines (ideally focused on data / and or sustainability)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with technology transformation initiatives

  • Experience managing sustainability BD programs across cross functional teams, at events and with strategic customer personas including Chief Sustainability Officers, Chief Data Officers, Chief Information Officers, proof of concepts
