Position Title: Equipment Operator - Rail Utility

Location: Medley, FL

Department: Aggregates

Reports To: Aggregates Loadout Manager

Job Summary:

The Rail Utility is responsible for the safe and efficient handling of railcars within an aggregates manufacturing operation. This includes tasks related to railcar loading, unloading, inspection, and maintenance. The Rail Utility plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and timely movement of materials in and out of the facility, supporting production schedules, and maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Railcar Operations:

  • Assist with the safe and efficient loading and unloading of railcars.

  • Ensure proper security of railcars to prevent any movement during loading/unloading.

  • Perform railcar switching duties as required.

  • Operate railcar movers and other equipment used in rail operations.

  • Inspection and Maintenance:

  • Conduct thorough inspections of railcars to ensure they are in proper working condition.

  • Identify and report any maintenance needs or safety concerns related to railcars and rail infrastructure.

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on railcars and rail infrastructure as needed.

  • Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements related to rail operations as outlined by MSHA.

  • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.

  • Coordination and Communication:

  • Coordinate with production, shipping, and receiving teams to ensure timely railcar movements.

  • Maintain accurate records of railcar activities, including loading/unloading times, material quantities, and inspection results.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding railcar status and any issues that arise.

  • General Duties:

  • Assist with other tasks as needed.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the overall efficiency of the operation.

    Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience in railcar operations, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to rail operations.

  • Ability to operate railcar movers and other relevant equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to conduct thorough inspections.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Physical ability to perform manual labor and work in various weather conditions.

    Working Conditions:

  • M-F from 4pm to 12 am.

  • Outdoor and indoor industrial environment.

  • Exposure to varying weather conditions.

  • Requires physical activity, including lifting, bending, and climbing.

    Additional Information:

  • Full-time position.

  • May require shift work, including nights and weekends.
