Job Title: Shelter Advocate

Job Type:** Full-time

Pay: $17.00 per hour

Schedule/Shift(s): * *2nd Shift: 4PM - 12AM 3rd Shift: 12AM - 8AM

Required Education, Experience and Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Maintain valid Ohio driver's license and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations).

Role and Responsibilities

· Provides confidential services to survivors including, but not limited to promptly answering the 24-hour hotline, advocacy, crisis intervention, referrals, safety planning and follow-ups.

· Assists with day-to-day operations including providing shelter coverage, maintaining/contributing to health and safety of everyone in shelter, transporting survivors when needed, facilitates problem-solving of in-house conflicts, and encourages and models positive shelter interactions by connecting with each survivor daily.

· Refers survivors to other agencies and resources. Works directly with other agencies to secure services on behalf of survivors and their children.

· Assists Shelter Case Managers in providing supplemental supportive services to survivors based on their individualized goal plans.

· Creates and runs one weekly workshop for survivors in shelter to participate in.

· Abides by the mandated reporting policy and procedure when it comes to suspicion or witness of abuse or neglect of children and/or seniors.

· Attends appropriate trainings, workshops, conferences, etc. to enhance professional development and understanding of issues in the fields of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking.

· Meets the set goals and expectations set forth in regard to time spent with clients per shift.

· Assists with cleaning of resident rooms for incoming families.

· Completes documentation in a timely manner in accordance with the policies and procedures.

· Attends staff meetings as scheduled.

· Works cooperatively with other staff members, interns, and volunteers to ensure best practices in service delivery.

· Always adheres to Service Excellence standards.

· Complies with agency policies and procedures, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.

· Performs other duties as assigned.
