This role carries a travel requirement of 40%-50%, domestic and global. Travel is not regularly scheduled every month, but is based strictly on business needs. Demand is base on an annual basis

JOB SUMMARY

The applicant for Senior Automation Engineer is a candidate who possesses the enthusiasm, technical expertise and experience to immediately have a positive impact to our team. This candidate will be instrumental in Jabil Packaging becoming the industry leader in new technologies as well as optimizing our existing work cells. The candidate must have a good balance of formal education, experience, leadership and must work equally well independently or as a member of a cross-functional team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interact directly with customers to understand issues and provide solutions.

  • Willingness to embrace, implement and advocate for state-of-the-art technologies such as Industry 4.0, lights out manufacturing, collaborative robotics and automated guided vehicles.

  • Lead the company in all automation efforts. Provide technical expertise and guidance to plant level automation engineers. Follow and enforce safety protocols as a priority, GMP and applying lean manufacturing principles.

  • Perform a variety of duties related to the development and implementation of cost efficient, capable processes for both new and existing automated cells. Deliver new systems on time, at or under budget, which perform at the standard rate. Hands on when required.

  • Coordinate the efforts of supplier partners, plant level Automation Engineers/Technicians and Project Engineers to meet divisional goals and objectives.

  • Manage the specification, procurement, and installation of new equipment, auxiliaries, and work cells.

  • Perform designed experiments to develop and enhance lean processes as well as improve yields and utilization through reduced cycle and efficient setups.

  • Lead the design, implementation and debugging of new systems, ensuring efficiency and reliability of equipment.

  • Provide functional and technical guidance to plant engineers. Coordinate and conduct training as necessary.

  • Create, update and maintain critical documentation such as: safety compliance standards, user requirement specifications, global automation standards, preventive maintenance and spare inventory recommendations, approved supplier database and validation/acceptance criteria.

  • Seek out and screen new potential suppliers disrupting our industry.

    Education and Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent in education and experience.

  • 3-5 years experience with engineering automation equipment applications.

  • Well versed in reading mechanical/electrical and operating system drawings and schematics.

  • Critical documentation and program management skills and experience required.

  • Specific exposure to automation equipment assembly, installation and validation.

  • Injection molding experience/knowledge very helpful.

  • Prior consumer packaging, injection molding and CAD design experience preferred.

  • High travel demand, including globally.

  • Manage timelines, budgets, action items and resolution. Revision management.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a focus on delivering innovative solutions.

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in parallel.
