MITRE’s Information Services organization provides secondary research to MITRE employees in support of our Sponsor’s needs, corporate initiatives, and internal research and development projects. We offer two levels of service comprised of quick turnaround research requests and longer duration custom research. Our services are available to all MITRE staff, across levels and projects. Information Services is part of MITRE’s Market Intelligence & Research organization. Together, our services cover the spectrum of requirements to support MITRE’s mission of “Solving Problems for a Safer World.”

Job Description:

MITRE's Information Services department seeks an experienced researcher, information professional, or librarian to support our team as a Senior Information Research Analyst. With primary responsibility for custom research, this individual will be responsible for gathering and analyzing information from third-parties, open-source content, published research papers, subscription and public databases and other sources in support of MITRE’s work programs, and specific sponsor and MITRE initiatives. As an information services professional, this key team member will need an in-depth understanding of conducting research using topical databases, digital resources, search strategies, research and information management practices, and have a keen ability to translate internal client questions into tangible research objectives to meet the needs of our customers.

This position will interact with all levels of the company, including senior level managers, technical SMEs, and analysts. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience providing similar research for government or technical needs, and an appreciation for a nonprofit/public interest environment.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team providing research support to a diverse set of customers in the areas of federal government initiatives, technology, research and development, as well as other varied topics of interest to our internal customers

  • Conduct high-level, customizable research and analysis in subject areas relevant to MITRE and our sponsors, using appropriate electronic resources

  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner, with customers and colleagues to create strong partnerships across the organization

  • Understand customer initiatives and proactively research and distribute content of interest to customers

  • Identify and provide objective secondary research to internal customers that informs MITRE’s federal government sponsor, market, and technology intelligence requirements

  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in research tools and techniques, including new technologies such as artificial intelligence

  • Staff the McLean InfoDesk when required, fielding walk-up research requests and coordination with the team lead on research request assignment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Strong research and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills; ability to communicate complex information to technical and non-technical professionals

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, to solve problems creatively, and to effectively build partnerships

  • Able to obtain a Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 - 7 years of professional experience conducting market or federal research

  • Master's degree in library science (or related field) preferred

  • Understanding of the federal government and the federal contracting industry

  • Experience in a corporate, government, or non-profit library

  • Familiarity with subscription databases and research tools, and appropriate use cases for them

  • Understanding of copyright and related usage restrictions
