The N111 Department’s mission is to provide thought leadership and data driven analysis to enable the Department of the Air Force and the USSF to design, develop, acquire, and integrate future warfighting space force designs, including space system-of-systems architectures and space programs, in time to outpace accelerating threats. Our focus is to create, integrate, and assess space concepts, technologies, enterprise architectures, and wargaming to fight and win.

Roles & Responsibilities:

As a Lead Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) Engineer, you will serve as a task lead and subject matter expert to the Space Warfighting Analysis Center's (SWAC) Navigation Warfare (NAVWAR) Division. The SWAC is the organization tasked with developing the USSF’s future force designs, recommended architectures, and mission capabilities necessary for success in future military conflicts. You will apply your systems engineering knowledge to help the USSF "go fast" and deliver more resilient space capabilities. The position requires technical expertise in a relevant field and a willingness to apply that expertise to new architecture designs. Your expertise will be crucial to the success of the Space Systems Command (SSC) and the SWAC. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Engineering future PNT architectures using past experience, focused study, and analysis

  • Evaluating architecture performance against agreed upon figures of merit

  • Providing technical expertise and guidance to the PNT and GPS Program Offices, assisting in their acquisition and sustainment activities for current and future programs of record

  • Recommending solutions to acquisition requirements through focused analysis and study

  • As MITRE’s PNT Task Lead, provide technical insight and direction to a diverse group of individual contributors.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • A current DoD Top Secret clearance with the ability to possess/maintain a DoD TS/SCI clearance

  • Demonstrated expertise in the PNT mission, signals, and codes, including an understanding of threats to the PNT mission (electronic, kinetic, cyber attack etc.) and knowledge and/or experience with current PNT modernization or sustainment programs (e.g., Regional Military Protection, Military GPS User Equipment, etc.)

  • Demonstrated expertise in the GPS program of record (programmatic and detailed technical experience) with knowledge of military GPS user equipment, mission dependencies, and ground control segment

  • Detailed knowledge of multi-Global Navigation Satellite System (mGNSS)

  • Experience with the modeling and simulation and scientific programming of radiofrequency propagation and associated PNT figures of merit (e.g., satellites in view, Position Dilution of Precision, etc.)

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of astrodynamics principles and their impact to the PNT mission

  • Understanding of USSF organizations, space operations, and space systems

  • Ability to work with and lead highly dynamic, fast-paced teams

  • Experience in Space Command and Control

  • Experience working with PNT analytical tools (GIANT, etc.)

  • Experience working with general space and astrodynamics tools (STK, etc.)

  • Systems Engineering experience

  • Knowledge of foreign PNT systems

  • Experience working on programs with allied foreign nations

  • Ability to code using C++, Python, or MATLAB

  • TS/SCI Clearance

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$150,500 - $188,000 - $225,500 Annual
